Spiritual leadership of the congregation
Purpose of Position
 
Serve the spiritual needs of the membership. The Elders and ministers shall serve as primary caregivers, guides, and counselors to the membership on a continuing basis, offering assistance, encouragement, and resolution of problems.
Responsible To
 
Church Board and fellow members of the congregation
Ministry Description
 
• Serve at the communion table giving prayers for offering/communion.
• Take communion to those members unable to attend worship service.
• Provide spiritual care and leadership to members of the congregation.
• Work with ministerial staff to provide special assistance/care to church members “in need” (e.g., visits, phone calls, meals, cards…)
• Seek out ways that can provide and lead to spiritual growth for church members.
Training Provided
 
• CCSW and NTA seminars and workshops
• Resources supplied by ministry staff

Special Skills
 
Elders are asked to give compassionate care to our congregation; to be willing to be present to others in the adventures of their lives; to listen, to comfort, and to encourage, and to represent the healing love of Christ here on earth. Spiritual gifts of encouragement, leadership, faith and helping.
