A Message from Rev. David

Christian recording artist Michael W. Smith wrote in a song:

“Looking for a reason,

Roaming through the night to find

My place in this world

My place in this world

Not a lot to lean on

I need your light to help me find

My place in this world”

Have you ever thought about your place in this world?  Have you found it?  Where is it?  Where do you belong?  Furthermore who do you belong to?

Each of us will be forced to wrestle with these questions at some point during our lives.  Oh sure, there are some people who seem to float through life with little trouble, but more often than not this isn’t the case.  Moreover for those who fail to find their place in this world they often wander through life in a daze, not really sure of where they’ve been and even less sure of where they’re going?  This of course makes those everyday problems seemingly insurmountable obstacles.

My guess is you’ve been there.  Perhaps your car is broken down again.   Maybe it’s that list of odd jobs that never get done.  Maybe it’s the stacks of paper that never go down.  Or maybe it’s receiving word of a serious illness or that a loved one has died.  And for some it’s simply turning on the news and hearing about and seeing so many people hurting and like you searching to find their place in this world.

Indeed the uncertainty and chaos of this life often casts a heavy shadow on its inhabitants.  In fact even for those of us who believe that there’s more to life than this world has to offer, they too will experience this uncertainty and they too will have to come to terms with many of life’s difficulties, including where and how and with whom they fit in and belong.  So it is during these times that we must consider who or what we can lean on or turn to for answers or build a solid foundation for our lives.  It is during these times, perhaps more than any others, that we must be steadfast in our faith, our belief, and our hope.

So what is the light that will help us find our place in this sometimes dark, frightening and confusing world?  For Christians we believe that this light is Jesus Christ, the son of God.  But Jesus also says that we too are lights in this world.  As such we are equipped to find not only our way but we can help give direction and encouragement to others.  Many eastern religions teach that direction and guidance come from within.  For Christians we attribute this to the indwelling Spirit of Christ that lives in us and has promised to be our eternal compass.

As we make diligent search for our place in this world, I pray that we’ll each discover that it begins with knowing that the God of this world has offered His son Jesus to live and reign in our hearts and lives as the “light of life” now and for eternity.

Peace in Christ

David

P.S. Kristina and I wish to thank you for a wonderful installation service that was coupled with World Communion Sunday and joint services with DCC and FCCC.  As for the BBQ, well, all I can say is we need to do it more often.  The food was great!  The fellowship was wonderful!  And the dedication from members and friends to make this day so special, phenomenal!

Stewardship Drive 2010

Young at Heart

The October Young at Heart dinner will take place on Thursday, October 22 at 6:30 pm.  Please note that this is the fourth Thursday of the month not the third.  The restaurant location is Greek Isles.  Jan & Mark Mueller are in charge of this month’s meal, so please RSVP to them if you are attending.

Trunk or Treat

Trunk or Treat will take place on Saturday, October 31 from 12—3 pm.  The Evangelism team is hoping for a great turnout from DCC members to help out with the activities of that day, whether it’s decorating your trunk, helping with a booth or decorations, or donating candy or other items the team needs for the event.  If you’re able and willing to help out, please contact someone on the Evangelism team:  Mike Bell, Sonny Emine, Fred & Nancy Hall, Bob & Dudley Nesmith, and David & Kristina Nordyke.

Adoption & Foster Care Conference

Many children are waiting worldwide to become part of a family; by sharing adoption and foster information with Christians in our community, we believe we can help build the kingdom of God, one family at a time.  If you or someone you know are interested in either adoption or fostering a child, please see the flier below and pass on the information.  Thank you           Mary Jo Marvin

“Thank You” from Plano Food Pantry

“Dear Members of Disciples Christian Church,

Thank you for your donation of $208.00 to the Plano Food Pantry.  Thank you also for your recent food drive on behalf of the Pantry.  The Plano Food Pantry is grateful for your continued support.  2009 is the busiest year that the Plano Food Pantry has experienced.  Thanks to support from individuals and groups such as yours, the Pantry has food on its shelves to help those in need in our community.

As you may know, the Plano Food Pantry is a non-profit organization and operates entirely with volunteers.  Food orders are filled daily, Monday through Friday, throughout the year, with families receiving a week’s supply of food.  Additional weeks of food are supplied as needed.  It is because of support such as yours that the Pantry is able to continue to help those less fortunate in Plano.

Thank you again for your donations.

Sincerely,

Sharon Macduff, Director
