A Message from Rev. David

Over the last three months the church has been somewhat out of sorts with remodeling and other programs going on at DCC and as you might have guessed there weren’t many dull moments.  Amidst the ongoing remodeling, BBPS was in full swing with their summer school program and as it came to a close the teachers were gearing up for in-service and spring, I mean fall, cleaning.  Within the last three weeks their rooms were painted, cleaned out and rearranged as they wished.  The good news is, if they don’t like how they arranged things the first time they’ll get a chance to do it again in a couple of weeks as new carpeting is installed.

Also during the summer Jan was busy with her “regular” duties as well as assisting a variety of construction workers and contractors who needed information about the building or who needed a key or who just had a question about something.  There were also a few people, including myself, who just needed a place to sit down and relax and have a sounding board to bounce ideas around and she did it all from her relocated office.  As for me I managed to etch out a little space down the hall from Jan, and thanks to Dave Gillen and wireless equipment both Jan and I have been able to carry on with our work with some amount of normalcy.  I suppose that one of our greatest strengths as humans is our ability to adapt and make the most of varying situations.  Of course it didn’t hurt that in the case of DCC there has been a light at the end of the tunnel which will bring about some new and wonderful things.

This morning the air is once again a buzz with excitement from teachers, students and parents who are returning or are brand new to BBPS.  In fact as I’m writing this article I can hear them singing, “the ants go marching one by one hoorah, hoorah….”  I’m reminded that teachers, students and parents will all be adapting to new schedules, new environments, new programs and new faces.  The fact is this time of year is one which brings with it a sense of newness and excitement but often requires the ability to adapt and make the most of the situations or circumstances we’re dealing with.  Perhaps we would do well to remember, myself included, that there is light at the end of the tunnel and with it the promise of new and wonderful things.

Peace,

In Christ’s Love

David

P.S. As of right now my school schedule will be Wednesday and Friday, which means I’ll bee in the office Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.  **Please note if an emergency arises while I’m away please contact the church office or our Elder Chair Dixie Deen and we will do our best to coordinate any help that is needed.

Men’s Bible Study

Calling all men!  Come join us at IHOP (Plano Pkwy. just east of Preston Rd., south side of road) Friday, August 28 at 7:00 a.m.  No Bible, No Breakfast!  Questions?  Call Bob Knoll (972-618-8202) or Fred Hall (972-964-2727).

Paper Recycling Bins

Due to a City of Plano zoning ordinance, the two paper recycling bins in the DCC parking lot had to be removed.  The ordinance requires “screening” the bins with a six foot high masonry wall on three sides.  We’re sorry to see them go as they were a nice service to the community (as well as the planet).

Thanks to “Mystery Donor”

The DCC office staff is unsure who so generously put the shelving, food and sundry items for donations in the Information Area recently.  It is a wonderful resource to have here, especially for people experiencing difficult economic times.  This morning we were able to provide a bag of food to a man who’d come to the church asking for assistance.  So, whoever you are, THANK YOU SO MUCH (and maybe let us know who you are?)!

Disciples Women’s Reading Group

The Disciple Women of DCC will be meeting on Tuesday, September 8, to discuss the book 90 MINUTES IN HEAVEN by Don Piper.  Plan now to join us at

7 PM at the home of Barbara Ramsey.  For more details, contact Dixie Deen.  Come

and bring a friend.

Our next selection for October is THE RED TENT by Anita Diamant.  It is a longer book so you might want to start reading early.

DCC Board Meeting

The next board meeting will take place on Sunday, September 13 at 7 pm in the Atrium.  All board members should plan on attending and have your committee reports prepared.
