Men’s Bible Study

Calling all men!  Come join us at IHOP (Plano Pkwy. just east of Preston Rd., south side of road) Friday, July 24 at 7:00 a.m.  No Bible, No Breakfast!  Questions?  Call Bob Knoll (972-618-8202) or Fred Hall (972-964-2727).

Disciples Men’s Breakfast

Even though I will not be able to attend this area function due to out-of-town family visiting us that weekend, I encourage DCC men to attend the NTA Quarterly Disciples Men’s Breakfast on Saturday, August 8, at First Christian Church, Plano (813 E. 15th St., Plano 75074).  The original date has been changed due to the General Assembly not ending until August 2.

Rev. David

Summer Reading Group

The Disciples Women's Group will be gathering on Wednesday, August 19, at   7:00 pm to discuss the next book selection THE HELP by Kathryn Stockett.   Looking ahead, the September selection is 90 MINUTES IN HEAVEN  by Don Piper and October's is THE RED TENT  by Anita Diamant.  If any of these books sound interesting to you, plan to join us for our discussion and fellowship.  Any questions, contact Dixie Deen at 972-867-1614.

Men’s Church Golf League

Cottonwood Creek Golf Club at Los Rios welcomes all DCC men to share your faith in Christ with other Christians during their Church Golf League on Monday nights for eight weeks this summer beginning July 31.  The format is 4-man scramble and you do not need the same four players each week.  As long as you have four players to represent your church, your score will be counted.  Each round will be nine holes starting at 6:00 p.m.

Cost is $50 per team, per week ($12.50/round, per person).  It is a great way to get some exercise, meet other active Christians, improve your game and spread your love of Christ.  For more information or to register your team, call Matt Evans at 469-878-0689 or the golf shop at 972-424-8913.

Needs for Fire Victims

Debby Bobbitt, our NTA Outreach chair, received a call from the manager of the Millennium Apts. which had a fire last Thursday.  Apparently 21 units burned and other units suffered water damage.  The Red Cross put them up in a hotel one night.   They were put somewhere else, probably unoccupied units at the apartments.  They need bedding – sheets and blankets.  So if anyone can help them please contact Debby at 214-282-1914.  The families will also need other items – children’s clothing and diapers among other things that would be lost in a fire.  Debby can give you details on where to take things.

DCC Office

Rev. David and Jan Carter will be out of the DCC office a bit this summer for some R & R.

Jan is taking Monday, August 3rd off; David will be out of the office on Wednesday and Thursday, August 5th and 6th.

Jan will be out of the office on vacation to attend her niece’s wedding in California and then visit the wine country in No. California from September 10 – 19.  She’ll be back in the office on Monday, September 21.

Rev. David is also planning on being out of the office for a few days in September.  Those dates will be published when they are confirmed.

Relief Nursery – Plano Fun Ride

By Laura Young

Plano Fun Ride has a new ride time! To better beat the heat, we will begin at 8 a.m., Sat. August 1st!  Check-in begins at Oak Point Park at 6:30 a.m.  Proceeds will benefit the Relief Nursery of Collin County and the Plano Children's Medical Clinic.  The day will include a five or ten mile bike ride, a bicycle rodeo for young children, many perks from our sponsors (including massage therapy at one of the rest stops), free bike etching from the Plano Police Department and free T-shirts for the first 100 early registrants.  In addition, the Plano Early Lions Club will be collecting donated eyeglasses.  For more information, please go to PlanoFunRide.org.  We hope to see you there!

If you would rather volunteer at a station than participate in the ride, we would be

delighted to have your help! Please contact board member, Kaycee Phelps, at

KPhelps@levi.com for details.  Please also share this with all interested friends.  This

is a simple and fun way to make direct assistance available to families in our community!

Thank you!

Please register for VBS by this Sunday,

July 26th

You are invited to come rock at "Crocodile Dock!"  Due to many factors, we have decided to join forces with FCC Plano this year, and they have graciously agreed to accommodate DCC and FCCC kids (preschool through grade 5).  Their Crocodile Dock VBS will take place August 3-7, from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm.  Laura Young will be co-leading the opening and closing groups, so there will be at least one familiar face.  Other DCC members have offered their time as well.  Kids should wear clothes that are suitable for craft projects and active games.  Drop-off is between 6:15 and 6:30 pm at the FCC chapel (east end of the building, which is located at 813 E. 15th street).  Pick-up time is at 9 p.m. sharp.  Parents are welcome to come a bit early and enjoy the closing music.

Please register your children and grandchildren through the FCC website as soon as possible.

To register:

Go to fccplano.org and click "VBS 2009" at the top right of the page.

At the next page, under the Crocodile Dock logo, please click "participant registration" to fill out the forms required.  You can contact Shannon Grubbs with questions at 972-423-3260.

Come "rock the dock" with us! Thank you!

CPR Class Available

On Wednesday, August 19, a CPR training class will be taking place in the Atrium from

6 – 8 pm.  The cost for the class is $25.  If you are interested in attending, please let Linda Gulick, BBPS director, know at 214-770-0854.
