A Message from Rev. David

Just days from now Kristina and I will be anxiously awaiting news that our friends have returned home after serving as overseas missionaries for the last nine months.  As you can imagine their experience has taught them valuable lessons about life, marriage, the mission field and ministry in general.  I remember when Kristina and I first found out they were interested in doing this.  They’d just come back from their honeymoon and we were sitting in our living room visiting and looking at pictures from Lake Tahoe and a light house B&B they’d stayed at in California.  While they were preparing for a wonderful honeymoon they were also praying that while on vacation God would give them direction for the next steps for their life and marriage.  Wouldn’t you know it, God showed up (as He always does) positioning a leader with a missions organization to “coincidentally” bump into our friends, introduce themselves and pass along some information about their organization.  Admittedly as our friends were sharing this with us we were a little skeptical.  However we fully supported their desire to serve as God directed them.  Wow!  I wish I had that kind of faith, to go and do whatever God asked, even if it meant going half way around the world to do it.

Well, after their “chance” encounter they spent the next several months in conversation with that leader and would even arrange a trial visit overseas to see if they’d be okay with this kind of life and work and if the organization felt they’d be right for it.  Their initial trip was a success and after a few more months and lots and lots of prayers the decision was made, they were going to serve overseas for at least nine months and maybe longer.  I remember hearing the news and being excited for the opportunity but deeply saddened at the thought of saying goodbye to close friends.  Sure we could write, yes we could talk on the phone or even email but it wouldn’t be the same and in fact it wasn’t the same.  However it wasn’t just the goodbyes weighing so heavily on our hearts but more so the work they’d be doing and the place in which they’d be doing it.  While we feared for their safety they assured family and friends they’d be okay.

Well I can’t wait to hear about their experiences and see pictures.  I know that God has used them in mighty ways, telling and, perhaps more so, living out the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  I’m excited to hear about their plans to attend seminary and what other ministry work might be on the horizon.  Who knows, I might just invite them to Plano and share with DCC and FCCC their experiences as well as their musical talents???  In thinking about missions work I realize that not everyone is called to the “mission field” as we generally think of it.  But in reality we are, in that, each of us as members of the Body of Christ, are called to tell and perhaps more importantly live out the Gospel of Jesus Christ in our homes, our schools, our jobs and even our social lives.  In fact our denominational directive is to live and tell the Good News of Jesus Christ from our doorsteps to the ends of the earth.  Remember that in our own way whether serving in the remotest parts of the earth or in our backyard we are missionaries of the love and grace of Jesus Christ.

Blessings,

David

Men’s Church Golf League

Cottonwood Creek Golf Club at Los Rios welcomes all DCC men to share your faith in Christ with other Christians during their Church Golf League on Monday nights for eight weeks this summer beginning July 31.  The format is 4-man scramble and you do not need the same four players each week.  As long as you have four players to represent your church, your score will be counted.  Each round will be nine holes starting at 6:00 p.m.

Cost is $50 per team, per week ($12.50/round, per person).  It is a great way to get some exercise, meet other active Christians, improve your game and spread your love of Christ.  For more information or to register your team, call Matt Evans at 469-878-0689 or the golf shop at 972-424-8913.

Relief Nursery – Plano Fun Ride

By Laura Young

Plano Fun Ride has a new ride time! To better beat the heat, we will begin at 8 a.m., Sat. August 1st!  Check-in begins at Oak Point Park at 6:30 a.m.  Proceeds will benefit the Relief Nursery of Collin County and the Plano Children's Medical Clinic.  The day will include a five or ten mile bike ride, a bicycle rodeo for young children, many perks from our sponsors (including massage therapy at one of the rest stops), free bike etching from the Plano Police Department and free T-shirts for the first 100 early registrants.  In addition, the Plano Early Lions Club will be collecting donated eyeglasses.  For more information, please go to PlanoFunRide.org.  We hope to see you there!

If you would rather volunteer at a station than participate in the ride, we would be

delighted to have your help! Please contact board member, Kaycee Phelps, at

KPhelps@levi.com for details.  Please also share this with all interested friends.  This

is a simple and fun way to make direct assistance available to families in our community!

Thank you!

You are invited to come rock at "Crocodile Dock!"  Due to many factors, we have decided to join forces with FCC Plano this year, and they have graciously agreed to accommodate DCC and FCCC kids (preschool through grade 5).  Their Crocodile Dock VBS will take place August 3-7, from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm.  Laura Young will be co-leading the opening and closing groups, so there will be at least one familiar face.  Other DCC members have offered their time as well.  Kids should wear clothes that are suitable for craft projects and active games.  Drop-off is between 6:15 and 6:30 pm at the FCC chapel (east end of the building, which is located at 813 E. 15th street).  Pick-up time is at 9 p.m. sharp.  Parents are welcome to come a bit early and enjoy the closing music.

Please register your children and grandchildren through the FCC website as soon as possible.
