Clark’s Clips

Well Memorial Day is over.  I hope it was a restful experience; all of us need some time without responsibilities.  It was for us: one was recuperating at home in Springtown; the other was “holding down the fort” in Plano.  Although it was not what we wanted or expected, it was relaxing.

In our hectic lives we need to slow down.  That was, and is, the whole point of the Sabbath.  It is a day of rest from routine and work.  Everybody needs it; but many of us get caught up in routine and can’t seem to stop.  We can’t seem to get off the merry-go-round.  What troubled people in Jesus’ day, and for many in our own day, is that we load the Sabbath with other baggage.  Thus the Sabbath becomes another master (May 25th sermon!).

It bothered me early on in ministry that people kept their stores open to make ends meet.  It bothered me that Sunday was the day to shop.  It bothered me that Sunday was the day to play.  It bothered me that Sunday was the day to mow the lawn, or get chores done, etc.  It bothered me that people found so many reasons to be away from church!  That was my definition of Sabbath: go to church on Sunday.

Then one day it hit me: God wants us to rest!  Take it easy one day a week.  That peculiar practice set the ancient Hebrews apart from all their neighbors.  That’s what we ought to strive for; just one day set aside to rest.  Does that question all your priorities?  And resting doesn’t negate the need for worship and time with God either.

I beg you this summer think about it.  Use this summer to ‘practice up’ on a new habit: rest.  God will bless you for it.

HELP!

We need volunteers this Sunday, June 8 after worship to replace labels on the water bottles to be handed out at the Plano 4th of July parade.  Mike Bell is the contact person for this event.  There is also a need for volunteers at the parade to pass out the bottles, get the trailer/float, drive the vehicle/float during the parade, and  decorate the trailer/float.  Please consider helping out with this fun and meaningful event.  You can contact Mike at 214-695-8157.

Bob Knoll “All Star” Basketball Camp

June 6 & 7, dates of the camp, are fast approaching!  If you can volunteer some time during the camp, please contact Bob & Sharon Knoll at 972-618-8202.  If you know of a young person in grades 2 - 8 that might like to participate in this FREE camp, direct them to www.dccplano.com where they can access a camp flier.

Holy Grounds

Twenty-eight Holy Grounders received certificates at the impressive Recognition Ceremony May 23, 2008 at Haggard Middle School.  Jojwan McLeod and Lexus Harmon, good friends of DCC, were part of this group.  Good Job Jojwan and Lexus!  On our closing Tuesday, May 27, we celebrated with cake, pictures, year books, snacks, beads, and lots of hugs.  The "open" sign has been replaced with "gone fishin' "..."see you this fall." - Nancy Hall

Computer Question and Answer Forum (aka Troubleshooting 911)

See if you can answer these questions:

  • If a RAM megabytes you, will you get a virus?
  • Can a phish get caught in an Internet?
  • If you throw Spam against a firewall, will it stick?
  • Does this all sound like a bunch of gibberish to you?

Well, if it does, let’s see if we can make sense of this technobabble.

Dave Gillen is offering a Computer Question and Answer Forum in June.  There will be no set presentation.  Bring your computer questions, Web puzzles, and Email conundrums to the forum.  Dave will help untangle the mess for you.

The forum will be held Sunday, June 8th at 5:30 PM.  It will last about an hour…or until the well of questions runs dry.

And the answers to the questions are:  no, yes, no, and yes.  You’ll have to come to the forum to find out why!
