Clark’s Clips

Having never heard me preach, an elder told Diane that if I was half as good a preacher as she, then I would be OK.  We both laughed, for we know

that we preach differently.  And you all hear us differently too.  From Sunday to Sunday your life changes.  The news is different; personal issues vary;

things at your workplace shift; the weather changes.  What you needed last week is not what you need this week.

So you hear the good news in a very different way than you heard it last week.  And what misses you may be the very thing the person beside you in the pew needs to hear.  Or vice versa.  Even the things going on in and around the congregation affect you.

But we all come to worship; I mean all of us.  The preachers, the choir, the accompanists, the readers, the pray-ers, the servers, the greeters: all of us come to worship.  The sermon, hymns, scripture, anthem, prayers, communion, offering are part of a whole.  We are the performers, along with all the other worshipers everywhere in the world, laying our lives before God for a brief time.

So, see you every Sunday, whether I’m in the pulpit or Diane is.  Let’s let God into our lives together and be prepared by our worship for whatever God has in store for all of us.

2008 Flower Calendar

The flower calendar for this year is back in the Narthex rather than in Jan’s office.  At this point, there are plenty Sundays to choose from

for those of you wishing to contribute flowers during worship in honor of a special person or occasion.  The cost is $40.  Please remember to drop your payment in the offering plate on the Sunday you’re giving the flowers.

Chinese New Year Invitation

from Rev. Lian Jiang, First Chinese Christian Church

Chinese New Year is coming on February 7.  As is our tradition, we, the Chinese congregation, would like to invite all our American

brother and sisters to a celebration lunch on Sunday, February 10.  Please just come and eat – you are our honored guests.  This

is also a token of our appreciation for all your support.  The lunch starts after worship around 11:45 am.  Peace!

Autumn MagicSouper Bowl of Caring

The Souper Bowl of Caring Sunday is February 3.  You can help support this canned-good drive to help refill the shelves of the Plano Food Pantry.  Bring your canned goods (ex. canned soup, chili, stew, spaghetti sauce, any non-perishable food item) and we will dedicate them February 3 as we join churches around the nation in our efforts to help end hunger in our community.

Telling the Good News: Online!

If you have not stopped by the DCC website recently, click on over. A significant update was made on Monday, November 12. There are photos of Trunk or Treat. You can access them from snapfish.com. You will need a username and a password, but it only takes a few seconds to get registered.

Remember, church leaders can find important documents on the download page.

Also, don't forget to visit the online calendar. It enables you to send yourself reminders of upcoming events, send invitations to friends and colleagues and download the church schedule to your personal computer. You can find all of the church activities, birthdays and anniversaries on that calendar, as well as the scheduled Elders, Deacons and Connectors for each Sunday.

Also, there is a place to submit prayer requests.

For website suggestions, please e-mail the church office.
