Introducing our new Interim Pastors

Disciples Christian Church is pleased to announce that beginning on Monday, January 7 we will have new interim pastors, Galen and Diane Clark.

Galen, a native Missourian, began preaching in 1956 after graduating from Drake University Divinity School.  He served various pastorates in Arkansas, Iowa, Illinois and Missouri as well as working for the Northeast Area of the Christian Church in Mid-America.  He retired in 1996 and has since served ten transitional ministries.  Galen’s main hobby is music, playing over 20 different musical instruments (at varying levels of technical skill).

Diane Clark entered ministry in the 1980’s as a second career after teaching and working as a librarian.  After receiving her Master of Divinity from Brite Divinity School in 1986, she served churches in Missouri and Texas, eventually retiring from Azle Christian Church.  She has been active at church camps from elementary through CYF.  Diane enjoys preaching and is committed to pastoral care of church members, especially the sick and bereaved.

She and Galen were married in May 1994.  Together they have seven children and nine grandchildren.

SOME OBSERVATONS

It has been a wonderful season to be with you again at Disciples.  It seems that we picked up where we left off two years ago without skipping a beat.

However, there are many changes that have taken place ― the Atrium is so attractive with new paint, beautiful banners, the welcoming Center in the “center,” the Holy Grounds Coffee Shop inviting and the informative bulletin boards in the old welcome center.   The Sanctuary has a freshness with the new colors on the walls, the stunning banners and the new paraments.  And then there is the wonderful new sound system with the wiring under the flooring, the projector mounted on the ceiling.

Of course, the preschool was as active and energetic and fun as usual.

I was particularly excited to visit the Holy Grounds Coffee Shop with about 15 young people doing various things.  In the atrium there were 6 – 8 using the computers, snacking, visiting, interacting with Fred and Nancy and each other.  Then out in the yard there was a game of basketball with quite a few having a great time.  That is such a wonderful important and exciting ministry you have going.

It has been my honor and pleasure to join in ministry with you for even this very brief period of time.  May God bless you in your search for the new minister God will lead you to call.

Music Notes

By Laura Young

Music Director

Thank you to Rick Boyer, Kim Bell and Marin Young for singing “Night of Silence” on Christmas Eve.  Thank you also to the Chancel Choir,

who sang beautifully and added much as well.  Julie Chen, John Prewitt, Yali Zhao and Ty Young also presented wonderful music at the

Christmas Eve concert, and I appreciate Julie’s efforts in organizing the concert again this year.

Because many people are still taking vacation days from work and school, Chancel Choir will resume rehearsals on January 9.  In order to get ahead with some anthems, we will meet for Chancel Choir on both the 9th and 16th and rehearse Handbells on the 23rd.  Thanks!

Upcoming local performance:

The Upside Down King,” a musical being staged by Peace Mennonite Church and hosted by Midway Hills Christian Church, is a new, upbeat, fun, and powerful re-telling of the life and ministry of Jesus.  This original musical features a five-member young adult cast, and a live classic rock and roots band.  Geared for youth and all ages, “The Upside Down King” focuses on the flipped-over aspects of Christ’s life and teachings.  The performance is Saturday, January 19 at 4 pm.  Midway Hills

Christian Church is located at 11001 Midway Rd., Dallas.  For more information, contact Molly Goodrich at 817-723-8336.

NTA Leader Event

The 2008 NTA Leader Event will take place on Saturday, January 19 at Central Christian Church.  It begins at 8 am with a prayer Breakfast with Rick Morse, vice president for New Church Ministry and Mission Initiatives with workshops beginning at 9:30 am.  Closing worship is at 3 pm followed by a post-event opportunity to “Share the Feast” with others.  A pre-registration form and workshop description sheets are on the table in the Welcome Center.  Lunch will

be provided by Central Christian Church.  Pre-registration is due by January 14.

Telling the Good News: Online!

If you have not stopped by the DCC website recently, click on over. A significant update was made on Monday, November 12. There are photos of Trunk or Treat. You can access them from snapfish.com. You will need a username and a password, but it only takes a few seconds to get registered. There are 19 photos online from our fall festival, which was Saturday, October 27.

Remember, church leaders can find important documents on the download page. Additionally, all of Rev. Coats' sermons can be found on the front page now.

Also, don't forget to visit the online calendar. It enables you to send yourself reminders of upcoming events, send invitations to friends and colleagues and download the church schedule to your personal computer. You can find all of the church activities, birthdays and anniversaries on that calendar, as well as the scheduled Elders, Deacons and Connectors for each Sunday.

Also, there is a place to submit prayer requests.

For website suggestions, please e-mail the church office.
