BOB KNOLL ALL-STAR BASKETBALL CAMP 2007

Videos: Bob & Kim | Lay-ups | Bob & Campers | Enthusiasm and Spirit

From Nancy Hall:

..ddd...ddd...ddd...ddd...ddd.d.d.d.d.d.ddd...Over the constant rhythm of 25 bouncing basketballs on the cement surface of the parking lot of DC Church, the whistle blew ...

Over 80+ kids, screaming at the top of their very big lungs, came shouting out, "We're Mavericks ... We"re Aggies.....

We're Lakers!!!!....

The day had begun.

Parents had gone through the registration process, said "good luck" to their kids and stayed. Stayed the whole time. Walking through the crowd I met a psychiatrist who counseled with women in prison at Carswell in Fort Worth. He brought his kid to the camp because of a poster at his daughter's school (Saigling). I talked to people just moving to Plano. They found our web site and came because of it. Actually the main source of contact was the web site and posters. Some comments made to me were "the other camp my child went to did not make my child work." "They didn't learn these skills; it was more like 'baby- sitting' and we had to pay for that". Free T-shirts, water bottles and food coupons were like "frosting" on their cake. Appreciation was expressed.

Recognition that "we were doing a needed thing" came easily.

Some were there from other Disciple congregations. Some brought neighbors.

The day began with a three-month old infant appearing with his older brother to "enter the battle". The most unique guest was an outstanding white pit bull. He hadn't reached the grade level for entry though. At least five from Holy Grounds were involved in the camp. Audrey, one of the mothers, brought her daughter with an older sister. Many brought two and sometimes three from their family.

Sitting on the bench - next to new people - the breeze blowing on a hot day - turning and saying, "Hi, I'm Nancy. I'm glad you came; how did you hear about this camp?"...Now that's what I call "tasty"... like eating chocolate for me. I enjoyed it and didn't want to quit.

Bob Knoll gave from the inside - deep inside where passion lives. Sharon Knoll and Kinsey Knoll, Howard Banks, Patti Boyer, Jan Mueller, Kevin Mueller, Mark Mueller, Donna Atkinson, Rosie Lewallen, Fred Hughey, Gary Boyd, Mariana McGowen, Mike Bell, Nick Bell, Brian Coats, Fred Hall - all captured the tremendous energy that Bob exploded with and turned everything into a magnificent event. I thank Brian for the many places and ways he publicized the event, and the Muellers and Mike Bell for the miles walked to make June 1-2 a reality.

To all those in the congregation who handed out brochures, made calls and/or prayed for our camp, "thank you." It was a "hot fudge sundae" event.
