A Commitment to Mission and Ministry

THIS Sunday, October 28 is an important day in the life of Disciples Christian Church. We will be bringing our pledges forward in worship to support the ministry and mission of the church for 2008. We will celebrate all of the ways we have lived out our mission to "live and tell the good news of Jesus Christ" in 2007, as well as look ahead to ways that mission will be lived out next year. There will be a sermon about the Biblical understanding of stewardship entitled "Discover Abundance," special music and a multi-media presentation.

Also, there is a congregational meeting directly following worship to approve the nominated slate of Board officers.

Trunk or Treat is three days away, and thanks to much behind the scenes preparation, we are ready to go.

For example, eight "Holy Ground Kids" were down on their hands and knees in the fellowship hall on Tuesday, October 16, with paint brushes, paint and poster board creating real works of art - actually signs for Trunk or Treat. Each person had his or her creative swish or swipe. They were all busy with a Trunk or Treat project. On Thursday we had a birthday blowout for Jojwan McCloud, one of the Holy Ground girls, complete with music, necklaces and heavenly cupcakes made by the original chef of DCC Ricky Boyer. Thanks, Ricky!

I am not sure whether this is a Holy Grounds or Trunk or Treat article. I can only sit here and think with Brian, "Wow, God is up to something at DCC." Leapin Lizards, when God puts stuff together you sit there and say "WHEW!" October 27 is almost here. The weather promises to be beautiful. The performers are ready. The balloons are ready to be blown up. I just can't wait! Hope you'll be there.

All Saints Day
Like last year, we will set aside time the first Sunday in November in worship to read the names of family members and friends who have died in the past 12 months. As each name is read, a bell tolls and a rose is carried to the altar to represent that person whose memory lives on.

If you have lost a special friend or loved one in the last year, we invite you to participate in this service. First, contact the church office (972/398-2240 or via e-mail) Second, plan to be present on November 4 so that you can participate in the service of remembrance.

All Saint's Sunday is a celebration of life and a time for healing. Together as a church family we give thanks to God for those who have shared the journey with us and blessed our lives.

"REEL FAITH"
Being an authentic witness of the love of Jesus Christ

Join us at Disciples Christian Church as we move through the book of Luke together. Luke, as a doctor, desired to provide a reliable and accurate account of Jesus' life and ministry (the gospel of Luke), as well as a reliable account of the early church (Acts). As a man of science, he placed a premium on authenticity. As people of faith, so should we.

We need to be real.

Luke has some characteristics that set it apart from the other gospels ... During this series, we'll look at stories from the book of Luke that are unique to that gospel:

  • October 28 (Commitment Sunday): Luke 12:35- 48
  • November 4 (All Saint's Sunday): Luke 20:27-38
  • November 11: Luke 8:1-3
  • November 18: Luke 19:1-10
  • November 25: Luke 17:11-19

Additionally, some of these messages will be supplemented by clips from contemporary movies. Join us for a time of "reel" faith!

website
If you have not stopped by the DCC website recently, click on over. A significant update was made on Tuesday, September 18. Information about Holy Grounds Coffee Shop is up, as well as links to important BBPS literature.

Remember, church leaders can find important documents on the download page. Additionally, all of Rev. Coats' sermons can be found on the front page now.

Also, don't forget to visit the online calendar. It enables you to send yourself reminders of upcoming events, send invitations to friends and colleagues and download the church schedule to your personal computer. You can find all of the church activities, birthdays and anniversaries on that calendar, as well as the scheduled Elders, Deacons and Connectors for each Sunday.

Also, there is a place to submit prayer requests.
