What a Treat!
|
 |
By Nancy
Hall
Evangelism Ministry Team Coordinator
Last Sunday, October 28, Brian's sermon featured
many things DCC has to be proud of.
One such thing, Trunk-or-Treat, exploded Saturday
when 48 cakes showed up for cakewalk or
raffle,
and a team of at least 16 volunteers turned DCC into a
corner advent.
People said, "What's going on there?" They heard
sweet music, saw science demonstrations, watched
cat adoptions, saw glimpses of "John The Baptist,"
won raffles and jumped in bounce houses. Austin
College students painted faces, and visiting youth
demonstrated dance moves to Christian hip-hop
music. People won free dinners to Outback
Steakhouse and the Cheesecake Factory. There was
plenty of pizza, cokes, popcorn and lemonade, as well
as helium balloons all over the place. People were
running, smiling and hugging. The good news of
Jesus Christ was heard by many who shared this day
with us.
We opened the doors, stepped out of the church, and
touched the world. To God be the Glory. Great things
He has done!
Join us this Sunday in worship for a Trunk or Treat
slide show!

By just about any measurement, Trunk or Treat was a
smashing success. We had perfect weather, and like
last year, another huge crowd ... scores and scores of
people from the community and the neighborhood
spent at least a couple of hours at DCC.
As I rewind last Saturday in my head, I am hitting the
pause button at the following places:

All Saint's Sunday: November 4
|
 |
Like last year, we will set aside time the first Sunday in
November in worship to read the names of family
members and friends who have died in the past 12
months. As each name is read, a bell tolls and a rose
is carried to the altar to represent that person whose
memory lives on.
If you have lost a special friend or loved one in the
last
year, we invite you to participate in this service.
First,
contact
Brian. Second, plan to be present on November 4
so that you
can participate in the service of remembrance.
All Saint's Sunday is a celebration of life and a time for
healing. Together as a church family we give thanks to
God for those who have shared the journey with us and
blessed our lives.

"REEL FAITH" Being an authentic witness of
the love of Jesus Christ
Join us at Disciples Christian Church as we move
through the book of Luke together. Luke, as
a doctor, desired to provide a reliable and accurate
account of Jesus' life and ministry (the gospel of Luke),
as well as a reliable account of the early church (Acts).
As a man of science, he placed a premium on
authenticity. As people of faith, so should
we.
We need to be real.
Luke has some characteristics that set it apart from the
other gospels ... During this series, we'll look at
stories from the book of Luke that are unique to that
gospel:
- November 4 (All Saint's Sunday): Luke 20:27-38
- November 11: Luke 8:1-3
- November 18: Luke 19:1-10
- November 25: Luke 17:11-19
Additionally, some of these messages will be
supplemented by clips from contemporary movies.
Join us for a time of "reel" faith!

Telling the Good News: Online
|
 |
If you have not stopped by the DCC website
recently, click
on over. A significant update was made on
Tuesday, September 18. Information about
Holy Grounds Coffee Shop is up, as well as links to
important BBPS literature.
Remember, church leaders can find important
documents on the
download page. Additionally, all of Rev. Coats'
sermons can be found on the front page
now.
Also, don't forget to visit the online
calendar. It enables you to send yourself
reminders of upcoming events, send invitations to
friends and colleagues and download the church
schedule to your personal computer.
You can find all of the church activities, birthdays
and anniversaries on that calendar, as well as
the
scheduled Elders,
Deacons and Connectors for
each Sunday. Also, there is a place to
submit prayer requests.
For website suggestions, please e-mail the
church office.
