Come Parade with Us
|
 |
We will once again be decorating a float and handing
(not throwing!) out water bottles in the Plano
Independence Day Parade.
You can help us put labels on the
bottles the next
two
Sundays following worship. It is especially important
that we get a lot done this Sunday - June 24. To
take part in the
parade,
decorate the float and pass out water bottles, meet us
in the east PSHS parking lot at 8 a.m. on Wednesday,
July 4.

Tuesday morning, I opened the newspaper and sat
down at the breakfast table. A large photo of downtown
Gainsville was on the front page. It was on the front
page because downtown Gainsville was under
water.
Just around the corner - so to speak - five people died
after flash floods swept through Gainsville and
Sherman. In some places, water surged eight feet.
Hundreds of homes were destroyed - many were
swept completely off their foundation.
I have participated in flood relief work on several
occasions. In 2002 I helped with some "mud outs" of
homes on the Guadalupe River after heavy rain
devestated the area just below Canyon Lake, near San
Antonio. I met families that had lost everything. I saw
foundations where buildings used to be. I saw a car in
a tree. The stress and loss was unbelievable. I am
sure the same is true in North Texas right now.
If you would like to help with flood relief, one of the best
ways for Disciples to do so is ...

By Laura
Young
Music Director
Thank you to the Chancel Choir for all of the
wonderful work you have done this year! Thank you
also to the kids and congregation for helping us to
sing "We Will Worship Him" on our last choir Sunday of
the summer. It was wonderful having all of you join us,
and we really appreciate Bill Brown, our guest
percussionist, who shared his time with us on Sunday,
June 10.
Special Music for Summer:
I am looking for soloists and small groups who would
enjoy presenting special music during the Sunday
worship services of summer. If you are interested, or
have suggestion for a special guest musician, please
contact Laura Young. We only have two Sundays left to
schedule, so call me quickly if you are interested: 972-
744-9941.
The Cast of Bronze Handbell Choir is going on
summer tour again. Those of you who have asked
about our former pianist, John Dysart, may be
interested in these concerts. Since moving back to the
DFW area, he has rejoined the ensemble. If you have
never heard this group, I highly recommend going.
They play at a professional level and the concerts are
always a tremendous amount of fun. Whether you are
a ringer or not, you can enjoy and be amazed. It is also
an opportunity to say hi to John Dysart (one of our
former pianists) and Oran Nabors (he and Charlotte
were the interim pastors before Brian was called to
DCC). The full concert schedule for 2007 is listed at
castofbronze.com, but here are their upcoming
nearby concerts: Friday, June 29 at 7:30 p.m. at St.
Barnabas Presbyterian Church, 1220 W. Beltline Rd. in
Richardson and Saturday, June 30 at 7:00 p.m. at
Trietsch Memorial UMC, 6101 Morriss Rd. in Flower
Mound.

Telling the Good News: Online
|
 |
If you have not stopped by the DCC website
recently, click
on over. A significant update was made on
Tuesday, June 5. There are videos and
photos
from the basketball camp.
Remember, church leaders can find important
documents on the
download page. Additionally, all of Rev. Coats'
sermons can be found on the front page
now.
Also, don't forget to visit the online
calendar. It enables you to send yourself
reminders of upcoming events, send invitations to
friends and colleagues and download the church
schedule to your personal computer.
You can find all of the church activities, birthdays
and anniversaries on that calendar, as well as
the
scheduled Elders,
Deacons and Connectors for
each Sunday. Also, there is a place to
submit prayer requests.
For website suggestions, please e-mail the
church office.
