Prayer Requests
Easter Morning at DCC

Christ the Lord is risen today, Alleluia!
All creation, join to say, Alleluia!
Raise your joys and triumphs high, Alleluia!
Sing, O heavens, and earth reply, Alleluia!

Join us THIS Sunday, April 8, as we worship the risen Christ!

  • 9 am ... Early Service ... A joint worship with First Chinese Christian Church. Bring flowers for our flower cross
  • 9:30 am ... Breakfast and Children’s Easter Egg Hunt ... Watch as our front lawn is filled with eggs and children!
  • 10:30 am ... A Celebration of Resurrection! ... Join us for worship and Communion. There will be a guest trumpeter, special music by our young people and a message called “A Saved! Spirit” from Romans 8.

We all make wrong choices, wrong decisions, and wrong turns in our lives at some time or another. The good news is that God allows u-turns. With His love, forgiveness, and redemption, we can turn around and get going again in the right direction.

During this series, you will hear true stories—from both contemporary life and from the Bible—of people who have made u-turns in their lives. These stories show how faith in God can inspire, encourage, heal, and give hope.

From tales of triumph to life lessons to faith and forgiveness—all share the very personal message that God works every day in each of our lives. Even when we're going in the wrong direction, God is faithful to remind us that we can turn around and get on course again ... with His help and with His road map, the Bible.

Make plans to be with us in worship during April and May at Disciples Christian Church – a church famous for U-turns.

Good Friday
You are invited to this unique service of praise and remembrance this Friday, April 6 at 7:30 pm. We will hear scripture, lift our voices in worship and watch the drama of the crucifixion unfold before us, through a monlogue by Sandy Snyder. Join us as we welcome The Connection Band from FCC Plano.

BBPS
By Linda Gullick
BBPS Director

Bright Beginnings Preschool is getting ready for Easter this week. The children will hear the story of the Dogwood tree and learn about the Resurrection Eggs. We are registering now for our six-week Summer Camp. The weeks of camp are June 12 through June 28. After a holiday week for the 4th of July we will resume camp July 10 though July 26. Our theme this camp is “The Incredible Voyage Through the Human Body”. The days of Summer Camp are Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. If you have children or grandchildren that might be interested in attending, please contact Linda Gulick through the church office.

Also, BBPS is having a rummage sale in the DCC parking lot on Saturday, April 21 from 7 am to 2 pm. The sale is a fundraiser for BBPS as they will be renting “parking spaces” where folks can hold their own “garage sale.” Everyone is welcome whether you are renting a space to sell your own goods or coming as a shopper! For more information, contact Jan in the church office at 972-398-2240.

Finally, Bright Beginnings Preschool’s children, staff and Foster Grandparents would like to thank Mike Bell for the four cases of delicious apples. The children enjoyed apples and peanut butter for their special snack. Thank you so much for donating to us.

Habitat
DCC will once again partner with other area churches to build a home for an in-need family this year. Volunteers are needed on Saturday, April 21. More details, including the home location, will be coming soon. For now, save the date!
Music Notes
By Laura Young
Music Director

From Psalm 98:
1 Sing to the LORD a new song,
for he has done marvelous things;
his right hand and his holy arm
have worked salvation for him.
2 The LORD has made his salvation known
and revealed his righteousness to the nations.
4 Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth,
burst into jubilant song with music;
5 make music to the LORD with the harp,
with the harp and the sound of singing,
6 with trumpets and the blast of the ram's horn—
shout for joy before the LORD, the King.

Invitation to the Congregation:
You know, we just have so much fun in the Chancel Choir that we want to give you a chance to share it! During the 10:30 worship on Easter Sunday, the Chancel Choir is singing two anthems that include trumpet and congregational singing. Ty Young will step up to the lectern and lead you in the congregational singing at the appropriate time. Who knows? You might find yourself tempted to join us on Wednesday nights after you see how easy and fun this is!

To Youth and Children's Choir members and parents:
Thank you to the Youth and Children's Choirs for your rehearsal time preparing for Easter Sunday! Please remember that we will sing "You Gave" during the "flowering of the cross" at the 9 a.m. service, and in place of the Children's Moment during the 10:30 service. If your families are able to sit towards the front half of the church on Easter Sunday, it will make it easier for you to come up at the right time. We will sing while people come up to put flowers on the cross. At the end of our song, Julie will continue to play piano for another few minutes so that you can go take your flowers to the cross.

Rev. Brian Coats
Quite a few of you have asked for a copy of the "17th Century Prayer" that I read in my sermon last Sunday.

Here it is:

Serendipity
Join us for our next Wednesday night all-church meal and fellowship on April 11 at 5:30 pm. We're going to open up the front doors and grill some hamburgers and hot dogs! Also, Laura Young is going to give a presentation about an exciting new ministry she is a part of. Don't miss it!
website
If you have not stopped by the DCC website recently, click on over. A significant update was made on Wednesday, February 28. There are more photos, and church leaders can find important documents on the download page. Additionally, all of Rev. Coats' sermons can be found on a new message series page.

Also, don't forget to visit the online calendar. It enables you to send yourself reminders of upcoming events, send invitations to friends and colleagues and download the church schedule to your personal computer. You can find all of the church activities, birthdays and anniversaries on that calendar, as well as the scheduled Elders, Deacons and Connectors for each Sunday.

Also, there is a place to submit prayer requests and a new feature called "DCC TV," which includes the videos from the "Let's Grow" campaign.

For website suggestions, please e-mail the church office.

DCC Youth
By Donna Atkinson
Minister to Youth and Family

During his final week Jesus prepared his disciples for what lie ahead. They gathered together in the Upper Room to celebrate the Passover Meal in what would be his last supper with those he had chosen. In one of his last loving acts with those who had become like his brothers, he removed their shoes and washed their feet as they prepared to dine together. One of his disciples, Simon Peter was confused by what Jesus was doing and Jesus responds to all his disciples in Luke 13:13-15, “Do you understand what I have done for you?” “You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord’ and rightly so, for that is what I am. Now that I your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you.” Jesus gives his disciples a new command in vs. 34, “Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Meditate on how Jesus is speaking to your heart as one of his disciples. Remember the journey he made for us to the cross out of his great love for us. As you remember, reach out, love and serve in His name.

With much love in Christ,
Donna
