Resurrection
|
 |
By Brian
Coats
DCC Senior Pastor
At the DCC Good Friday service, our call to worship
was a video entitled, "It's Friday, but Sunday's a
Coming!" It was a powerful reminder that the darkness
of Good Friday only stretches for three days - until
Sunday, when the stone is rolled away.
I love that we worshipped on and marked both
occasions.
Remembering the pain and suffering of the cross
makes the joy and celebration of Easter more
complete. Many, many thanks to everyone who
participated and helped make all three worship
services we held over the weekend very memorable:
Sandy Snyder (pictured), John Prewitt
and the FCC Plano Connection Band, for
leading
the Good Friday worship; Lian Jiang and
Mike Bell, for assisting and leading the Easter
early service; and Laura Young, the choir, Howard
Kennedy - our guest trumpeter - and the DCC
youth and children, for bringing us such a
wonderful music message for Easter. Kudos are also
due to Kevin Mueller and Dave Gillen,
for serving in the critical role of A/V direction over the
weekend, Dave Bell, for getting the flower
cross ready, and Rebecca Nilsen and
Rosalie Hughey, for planning and organizing
the Easter brunch.
Christ is risen! Christ is risen indeed!

We all make wrong choices, wrong decisions, and
wrong turns in our lives at some time or another. The
good news is that God allows u-turns. With His love,
forgiveness, and redemption, we can turn around and
get going again in the right direction.
During this series, you will hear true stories—from
both contemporary life and from the Bible—of
people who have made u-turns in their lives.
These stories show how faith in God can inspire,
encourage, heal, and give hope.
From tales of triumph to life lessons to faith and
forgiveness—all share the very personal message that
God works every day in each of our lives. Even when
we're going in the wrong direction, God is faithful to
remind us that we can turn around and get on course
again ... with His help and with His road map, the
Bible.
Make plans to be with us in worship during April
and May at Disciples Christian Church – a church
famous for U-turns.

Join us as we help a family in need and put our faith in
action.

Gullick
BBPS Director
We are registering now for our six-week Summer
Camp. The weeks of camp are June 12 through
June 28. After a holiday week for the 4th of July we will
resume camp July 10 though July 26. Our theme this
camp is “The Incredible Voyage Through the Human
Body”. The days of Summer Camp are Tuesdays,
Wednesdays, and Thursdays. If you have children or
grandchildren that might be interested in attending,
please contact Linda Gulick through the church
office.
Also, BBPS is having a rummage sale in the DCC
parking lot on Saturday, April 21 from 7 am to 2 pm.
The sale is a fundraiser for BBPS as they will be
renting “parking spaces” where folks can hold their
own “garage sale.” Everyone is welcome whether you
are renting a space to sell your own goods or coming
as a shopper! For more information, contact
Jan in the church office at 972-398-2240.

One of the ways of "living and telling the good news of
Jesus Christ" (the DCC mission statement) beyond
just 2001 Independence Pkwy. is to take part in

such events are happening soon:
- North Texas Area Assembly - May 6 at 3
p.m. at
East Dallas Christian Church ... Dr. Newell Williams,
the president of Brite Divinity School, is the speaker,
and there will be an offering for new
church starts in the North Texas Area.
- General Assembly - July 21-25 at the Fort
Worth
Convention Center ... Join in with thousands of
Disciples from all over the nation for worship,
fellowship and learning.

The Third Time is the Charm!

the four-person scramble is $65/player, which includes

special contests (closest to the hole and longest

Every Tuesday and Thursday, I stand on the sidewalk
between DCC and Independence St., crouching tiger-
like, ready to spring.
My "prey" are Plano Senior High School students,
walking home, oblivious to this gospel predator.
Actually, I'm pretty harmless ... I usually hand them a
flier and let them know about Holy Grounds Coffee
Shop, which is open from 3-6 p.m. on Tuesdays and
Thursdays.
I love my time "beating the streets." When I am out
there, I feel like a missionary, calling people to come
and experience Christian hospitality and connection. I
have been doing this for two months now, and I am
beginning to notice a few things.

Telling the Good News: Online
|
 |
If you have not stopped by the DCC website
recently, click
on over. A significant update was made on
Wednesday, February 28. There are more
photos, and
church leaders can find important documents on the
download page. Additionally, all of Rev. Coats'
sermons can be found on a new message series page.
Also, don't forget to visit the online
calendar. It enables you to send yourself
reminders of upcoming events, send invitations to
friends and colleagues and download the church
schedule to your personal computer.
You can find all of the church activities, birthdays
and anniversaries on that calendar, as well as
the
scheduled Elders,
Deacons and Connectors for
each Sunday. Also, there is a place to
submit prayer requests and a new feature
called "DCC TV," which includes the videos from
the "Let's Grow" campaign.
For website suggestions, please e-mail the
church office.

By Donna
Atkinson
Minister to Youth and Family
I pray that God’s love touched your heart in a very
special way this Easter season through your time of
worship and fellowship and celebration of the Risen
Christ! I witnessed so much love being poured out and
gifts being shared with one another as we
remembered our Savior’s great love for us Easter
morning! As I surveyed the church grounds Monday
afternoon where hours before the laughter of children
and their families filled the air as they hunted over 700
eggs, I came across one empty purple egg sitting all
alone! I wondered how so many could miss the one
that lie exposed sitting on the ground! May we all hold
fast to the special memory of that Easter morning and
continue to seek out those who may be lost or feel
abandoned to share the love of Christ and the promise
of his never-ending love for them! Remember keep
your eyes open, reach out, invite them and even offer to
pick them up to join you at church this week!
With much love in Christ,
Donna
Sprouts Children’s Church
Our VeggieTale friends Bob and Larry return this
Sunday! All children 4-8 years old are invited to join us
for a fun, interactive and exciting scripture lesson at
10:45am following the children’s moment. Bob and
Larry will be sharing a special message about keeping
our eyes fixed on Jesus as we connect to God our
source of love! And of course with Bob and Larry
there’s always lots of music and drama! Serving April
15th: Nancy Jiang
Servant Days
April 15– May 15 will be our month of seeking and
serving in Jesus’ name. We are on a mission to
exercise our love for Christ. Do you have a need
around your home that could use the energy of a youth
to complete? Garage needs attention, yard needs
some sprucing up. We’re here to serve you. Many of
our youth are looking for service hours. Donations to
the Youth Fund for the work done will be accepted and
credited to the youth who provides the service! Call me
and I’ll set you up with a helping hand!
DCC Mugs on Sale
Thanks to everyone who purchased an Easter Treat
mug to help support the Youth Fund. We still have
empty mugs for $5 each and if you love chocolate we
can fill yours up for $7. It’s not too late to remember a
special friend, co-worker or secret pal.
Recycle Project
The youth will begin collecting empty inkjet computer
cartridges and cell phones to help raise monies for the
Youth Fund. Share the news with your friends and
neighbors. Watch your mail and e-mail for a flier that
you can share with them to help the youth in their
efforts. It doesn’t cost a thing and helps our
environment at the same time!
April is Summer Church Camp Registration Month!
You should have received an envelope last week with
your registration forms!
It’s time to fill out those camp forms and return them to
the church office to get the early bird registration rate!
Jan Carter, our church secretary can notarize them for
you if needed. Church camp can be a life- transforming
experience! Attending church camp as an adult
confirmed my call to ministry!
Camp directors are always looking for adults with a
heart for working with youth of all ages to serve on staff.
Interested in finding out more about serving as a small
group leader at camp this summer? Give me a call at
972-533-6789!
