It's a New Year, and a new message series begins at Disciples Christian Church THIS Sunday, January 14.

As the calendar begins anew, we'll spend some time in the greatest beginning of all - the book of Genesis. Come and be reminded of some of the great stories of the faith, and see how they still speak to us today.

  • Jan. 14 ... Genesis 22:1-19 - Abraham and Isaac
  • Jan. 21 ... Genesis 18:1-14 - Abram and Sarah's Three Visitors
  • Jan. 28 ... Genesis 25:19-34 - Jacob and Essau
  • Feb. 5 ... Genesis 32: 22-32 - Wrestling with God
DCC is thrilled to welcome Royce Ann Glidden into the family!

Royce Ann is a life-long Disciple. She grew up at First Christian Church in Texas City, raised her family at FCC Kingsville and spent the last several years back in Texas City. She moved to Plano in August to be closer to her daughter.

As a life-long Disciple, Royce Ann has been heavily involved in Christian Women's Fellowship. She taught Sunday School for many years, preschool through middle school, and has sung in choirs. Her nephew is an ordained Disciple minister serving at Bethany CC in Houston.

Royce Ann said she was attracted to DCC because of the size. She said she is looking forward to getting to know DCC members and becoming more settled in Plano.

Welcome, Royce Ann!

Come and join us for a fundraising golf outing THIS Saturday, January 13 at 11 a.m. at Pecan Hollow Golf Course in Plano. Even if you did not sign up in December, there's still room to play! The cost for the four-person scramble is $65/player, which includes green fee, range balls, goodie bags, and participation in special contests (closest to the hole and longest drive).

To sign up yourself or a foursome, e-mail Brian.

Ninety percent of the funds raised go to help families with multiple family members going on the DCC Ski Trip. The other ten percent goes to the DCC Outreach ministry.

Over the course of the next three weeks you will have an opportunity to exercise (yes I said that word - exercise) as the Body of Christ! One of my favorite scriptures is Micah 6:8,”He has told you O mortal, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness and to walk humbly with your God.” I invite you to meditate on this scripture this week! You will find as you meditate daily on God’s word and exercise your spiritual muscles (love, peace, patience, kindness, humility, prayerfulness and self-control to name a few) your heart will be strengthened for whatever challenges lie ahead of you! Exercise can be fun when you do it with your friends so I invite you to come, bring a friend and participate in the many activities, service and worship opportunities offered at DCC Plano!

God’s Blessings be with you,
Donna

Dear DCC family –
Thank you all so much for the generous Christmas gift you gave me. You are all such a pleasure to know and work with! I haven’t decided what I will purchase with my gift, but know it will be as special as the people who gave it to me.
Happy New Year and love,
Jan Carter

To DCC members:
Thanks you so much for the year-end bonus. I really appreciate you all thinking of me and my family. May your 2007 be happy, healthy and hopeful.
Linda Gulick

Dear DCC family,
"Rejoice in the Lord always! I will say it again: Rejoice!" - Philippians 4:4

I am rejoicing (to say the least) as 2007 begins to be celebrating my one- year anniversary as your senior pastor! You've heard me say it again and again: God is up to something here! I'm thrilled to be a part of that, and I know Nicole and Kiley feel that way as well!

Thank you very much for the Christmas bonus. It was a fantastic surprise, and it was very generous.
Rejoicing,
Brian

Rev. Brian Coats
Are you a fan of lists? I am. I like this time of year because many media outlets, web sites, etc. publish things like "the top 10 stories" of 2006. I think I like lists because they are condensed and abbreviated, which means I might actually have time to read them.

With that thought, here's a list of some websites, podcats, books and magazines that inform, strengthen and challenge my faith.

DCC ushered in a new year with a new program on Wednesday, January 10. About 20 people enjoyed appetizers, a group game (organized and led by Julie Boyer, pictured) and a short devotional on grace by Rev. Brian Coats.

Serendipity, the name of the new event, is the second and fourth Wednesday of every month in Holy Grounds Coffee Shop at 5:30 p.m. Join us on January 24.

DCC Elders, Deacons, Board officers and ministry team coordinators are invited to make plans to attend the 2007 North Texas Area Leadership Training Event on Saturday, January 20 at First Christian Church in McKinney from 8:30 am - 4 pm. There are workshops for all facets of church leadership. Rev. Brian Coats will be presenting a workshop on what it means to be a missional church. For more information and/or to register, click here.
website
If you have not stopped by the DCC website recently, click on over. A significant update was made on Monday, December 18. There are more photos, and church leaders can find important documents on the download page. Additionally, all of Rev. Coats' sermons can be found on a new message series page.

Also, don't forget to visit the online calendar. It enables you to send yourself reminders of upcoming events, send invitations to friends and colleagues and download the church schedule to your personal computer. You can find all of the church activities, birthdays and anniversaries on that calendar, as well as the scheduled Elders, Deacons and Greeters for each Sunday.

Also, there is a place to submit prayer requests and a new feature called "DCC TV," which includes the videos from the "Let's Grow" campaign.

For website suggestions, please e-mail the church office.

Feel free to forward this e-mail on. If you are the recipient of a forwarded e-mail, and you have more questions about anything you see here or about Disciples Christian Church, send an e-mail to brian@dccplano.com.
