Holy Grounds Coffee Shop opens THIS Tuesday, February 6 at 3 p.m. Between now and then, please pray for this outreach. Pray that God will use this to touch the lives and hearts of young people. Pray too that we will extend warm and gracious hospitality, in the name of Jesus Christ. If you would like to volunteer to “staff” the coffee shop, please let me know.

Make plans now to be at DCC for a special Sunday. On February 18, we will have a joint worship service with First Chinese Christian Church. Dr. Lian Jiang (pictured), the minister of FCCC, will be preaching a message entitled, "Jesus in China." He will share his experiences working with Christian churches in China. Following worship, FCCC has invited DCC to a fellowship luncheon in honor of the Chinese New Year.

This is an appropriate Sunday to hear about Christianity across the globe, as we will be taking our annual offering for Week of Compassion, the disaster relief and development agency of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).

Don't miss it!

The DCC Evangelism Ministry Team - along with quite a few friends - took part in a workshop last Sunday called "The Engaging Church." NTA Minister Larry Ross spoke about connecting with guests and reaching lapsed and pre-Christians. He offered ideas, tips and suggestions, and the team developed an action plan incorporating some of those. Pictured, Donna Atkinson, Bekki Mueller, Jan Mueller and Laura Young had a seat on the "front row" for Larry's talk.

Disciple Christian Church children's ministry is growing!

Something BIG is about to break ground! On Sunday, February 25, a new program called "Sprouts" will come to life!

Following the children’s moment each Sunday in worship, children 4-8 years old are invited downstairs for an active and dynamic time of worship and learning geared specifically for children.

Led by trained and caring adults, children will learn about God’s love in a variety of ways from the highly- popular Veggie Tales characters. The kiddos will enjoy interacting with the popular Veggie Tales characters through:

  • Music
  • Drama
  • Puppet Theater
  • Videos
  • Bible Stories
  • Crafts
  • Snacks
It is our hope and prayer during this time together children will grow in their faith and discover just how much Jesus loves them and that they come to realize just how precious they are in God’s eyes!

For children 3 and younger, Tiffany Kidwell, our new nursery worker, will also be using Veggie Tales resources.

To hear more about the program, join me in Holy Grounds Coffee Shop next Wednesday, February 7, from 6-8 p.m.

Well the big day will be here this Sunday and I’m not talking about the Super Bowl Football game! I’m talking about the Souper Bowl of Caring where we team up with people across the nation to exercise an act of caring and compassion for our friends and neighbors in our community who are hungry and in need! You won’t want to assume the couch potato position this Sunday afternoon until you fill your own pantry and fridges and l’m not just talking about food to eat! So come on everybody let’s get out there and tell our friends and neighbors about the big day coming up this Sunday at DCC Plano. Invite them to come worship with you this Sunday to feast on God’s Word and don’t forget to bring your canned food to share with our friends assisted by the Plano Food Pantry! Come on, our Coach (God) is counting on us! Let’s work together and dedicate our efforts to God from whom all blessings flow!

GO TEAM! - Donna

Souper Bowl of Caring Sunday is this Sunday, February 4! ... You can help support the canned good drive to help refill the shelves of the Plano Food Pantry. Bring your canned goods (ex. canned soup, chili, stew, spaghetti sauce, any non-perishable food item) and we will dedicate them February 4 as we join churches around the nation in our efforts to help end hunger in our community.

Special Teams Projects! ... Let’s R.A.L.L.Y. (Radically Actively Living for the Lord Youth) at 9:30 am this Sunday in the Youth classroom as we plan our strategy to get some upcoming projects underway and continue our study in Genesis. This week’s scripture focus is Genesis 32:22-32.

Youth Fellowship Activity - Super Bowl Sunday Get Together – February 4 ... How about some pregame fun as we go bowling at Plano Super Bowl! We’ll meet there at 3:30 pm for an hour of bowling. Cost is $10 per person. All youth 3rd – 12th grade are invited! Friends are welcome! Let Donna know if you can make it!

CHI RHO Midwinter is February 9-11 ... This spiritual retreat is for youth grades 6-8. It is probably one of the most important weekends to reserve to come to know other Disciples youth and grow closer to God together! Registration forms are due now to reserve your place!

Mark Your Calendars NOW! ... Fourth Friday Fellowship Fast Food Night – Friday, February 23, 7-9 pm

If you are a young adult, adult or just young at heart and would like to serve as a sponsor for any of our upcoming youth activites, you are needed! If you have any questions about upcoming activities and events, feel free to contact me!

flowers
The flower calendar for this year is in the DCC office area on the wall behind Jan’s desk rather than in the Narthex. There are still LOTS of dates to choose from for those of you wishing to contribute flowers during worship in honor of a special person or occasion. The cost is still $30. Please remember to drop your payment in the offering plate on the Sunday you’re giving the flowers.
I actually was feeling quite ambitious and did two blogs this week!

Leave a comment or two after you read "T-Minus Six Days" and "A Long Time Ago, In a Galaxy Far, Far Away" ...

You are invited to join Kiley, Kailey and lots of other church friends the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month for Serendipity. From 5:30-6:30 pm we share a meal, play a game and hear where God has been working in our lives.

The next Serendipity is Wednesday, February 14, and yes, it will have a Valentine's theme. DCC youth will be serving as "hosts" as well as providing "entertainment" for the evening. Don't miss it!

Lent - a time where we focus on the meaning and impact of Good Friday - begins Wednesday, February 21 with a special service at Disciples Christian Church. Come and join us at 6:30 p.m. as we welcome our friends from First Christian. There will be a combined choir, and FCC Senior Pastor Bruce Grentz will bring the message. Last year, FCC welcomed DCC and opened the pulpit to Brian. Let's return their gracious hospitality this year with a strong turn-out.
website
If you have not stopped by the DCC website recently, click on over. A significant update was made on Monday, January 15. There are more photos, and church leaders can find important documents on the download page. Additionally, all of Rev. Coats' sermons can be found on a new message series page.

Also, don't forget to visit the online calendar. It enables you to send yourself reminders of upcoming events, send invitations to friends and colleagues and download the church schedule to your personal computer. You can find all of the church activities, birthdays and anniversaries on that calendar, as well as the scheduled Elders, Deacons and Greeters for each Sunday.

Also, there is a place to submit prayer requests and a new feature called "DCC TV," which includes the videos from the "Let's Grow" campaign.

For website suggestions, please e-mail the church office.

Feel free to forward this e-mail on. If you are the recipient of a forwarded e-mail, and you have more questions about anything you see here or about Disciples Christian Church, send an e-mail to brian@dccplano.com.
