Hope is Born

"For to us a child is born, to us a son is given. And the government will be upon his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." - Isaiah 9:6

This special season continues this Sunday, December 16. The birth of Christ is a time for hope, peace, joy and love. It is a time for worship, and it is a time for wonder. It is a time to remember that long ago, in a manger in Bethlehem, hope was born.

The following is a list of all of the ways that you can experience the hope of Christ at DCC this Advent:

  • Special worship elements: "Hope is Born" message series; family devotions; special music
  • Sunday, December 23 @ 9 am ... All-church Christmas brunch
  • The entire DCC family (and many guests) will gather at 7:30 pm on Monday, December 24 for a Candlelight Communion Christmas Eve Service.  A Christmas Concert featuring Julie Chen and other Disciples musicians precedes the service at 7 pm.
  • Advent devotional books available in Holy Grounds Coffee Shop

BC Talk

Oh how the years go by.

The last two, especially, went by very quickly.

I think this rapid march of the clock has something to do with this season of my life. During adolescence and young adulthood, there are fewer responsibilities, which means more free time. I imagine that later in life, after many years of important work, the deserved break known as retirement will perhaps also create a little more time.

But in this stage, days, weeks and months seem to fly by. Working all day, carving out family time and the steady stream of appointments makes life progress at a breathless pace. All of this means that I frequently look up and Monday morning has become Friday afternoon.

Telling the Good News: Online!

If you have not stopped by the DCC website recently, click on over. A significant update was made on Monday, November 12. There are photos of Trunk or Treat. You can access them from snapfish.com. You will need a username and a password, but it only takes a few seconds to get registered. There are 19 photos online from our fall festival, which was Saturday, October 27.

Remember, church leaders can find important documents on the download page. Additionally, all of Rev. Coats' sermons can be found on the front page now.

Also, don't forget to visit the online calendar. It enables you to send yourself reminders of upcoming events, send invitations to friends and colleagues and download the church schedule to your personal computer. You can find all of the church activities, birthdays and anniversaries on that calendar, as well as the scheduled Elders, Deacons and Connectors for each Sunday.

Also, there is a place to submit prayer requests.

For website suggestions, please e-mail the church office.
