Let's Grow

Get ready ... get set ...

The 2006 DCC Stewardship Campaign wraps us this Sunday, September 24. The last three weeks, we've spent time reflecting on faith, church and mission. We've taken cues from the New Testament church. We've prayed for our Discipleship, Worship, Outreach, Community, Property and Evangelism ministries. Our “Let’s Grow” campaign has been about much more than budgets or money. It has been about ministry and mission. Now, we bring our commitments for 2007 forward. Please join us for this important, uplifting day.

Don't forget ... Everyone is invited to a celebration luncheon after worship. BBQ and all the fixins will be on the menu.

World Communion Sunday
On Sunday, October 1, Christians all over the world will celebrate World Communion Sunday. DCC will mark this special day with a joint Lord's Supper with First Chinese Christian Church. Also, we will have a special reading of Psalm 23 in Norwegian,as well as Nigerian and Chinese dialects. Don't miss this unique and uplifting worship experience!
Trunk or Treat
The DCC front lawn will be "the place" on Saturday, October 28 from 3-6 pm. That afternoon we will be holding a fall carnival called "Trunk or Treat." All DCC members can take part in this by bringing your car/truck up to the church and decorating the back. Children will go from car to car collecting candy.

In addition to Trunk or Treat, many other activities are planned:

  • A bounce house
  • Carnival games led by the DCC youth
  • Live music
  • Face painting
  • Papa John's pizza
  • Participation by Plano Fire and Police departments
  • Raffles and prizes
  • A costume contest
Please invite your friends and neighbors to this SAFE Halloween alternative. For more information, please contact Nancy Hall.
By Fred Hall
Elder Chair

The Elders of Disciples Christian Church - Patti Boyer, Mike Bell, Martha Pusko and Fred Hall - provide leadership at the Lord’s table, provide care for those who are ill or in special need, and offer oversight to the life and work of the congregation. In order to be intentional about these responsibilities, a regular schedule is in place for leadership in worship and prayer with the pastor for the people. In addition, each individual member of the church is placed in a Flock group under the care of a specific Elder. Your Elder will be in touch with you ... but feel free to call upon any one of the Elders.

Elders are available to be a listening ear, prayer partner, counselor, helper and guide.

Adam's Animals is a non-profit foundation established in memory of Adam Hurst, a member of DCC and an NTA Youth Exec who died of leukemia on August 17th, 1999 at the age of eighteen. In the past seven years Adam's Animals has collected and distributed over 21,500 NEW stuffed animals to sick children in area hospitals. Adam's Animals are distributed by doctors, nurses, EMTs and staff whenever there is a child in need of comfort. Each stuffed animal delivered brings love, hope, friendship, and the knowledge that someone cares. Your contributions help bring all this to children who need special attention.

DCC is a drop off location for Adam's Animals. Please help by bringing NEW stuffed animals to the Adam's Animals box in the Atrium. Each stuffed animal becomes a friend to a child in need of something to hold on to and love at a difficult time in their young life. For more information, visit the Adam's Animals website.

How about a DCC road trip to Amarillo?

All of the Christian Churches (Disciples of Christ) in the Southwest gather once every two years for worship, renewal and fellowship. The next gathering is October 19-21, 2006 in Amarillo, TX. Featured speakers include Joey Jeter and Alvin Jackson, and the Saturday night worship will take place in Palo Duro Canyon! Our own Brian Coats is in charge of a youth worker training during the event.

Registration information can be found on the Region website. Also, talk to Brian for more details.

website
If you have not stopped by the DCC website recently, click on over. A significant update was made on Monday, September 18. There are more photos, and church leaders can find important documents on the download page. Additionally, all of Rev. Coats sermons can be found on a new message series page.

Also, don't forget to visit the online calendar. It enables you to send yourself reminders of upcoming events, send invitations to friends and colleagues and download the church schedule to your personal computer. You can find all of the church activities, birthdays and anniversaries for September on that calendar, as well as the scheduled Elders, Deacons and Greeters for each Sunday.

Also, there is a place to submit prayer requests and a new feature called "DCC TV," which is a video of our Sunday worship.

For website suggestions, please e-mail the church office.

Feel free to forward this e-mail on. If you are the recipient of a forwarded e-mail, and you have more questions about anything you see here or about Disciples Christian Church, send an e-mail to brian@dccplano.com.
