Let's Grow

Get ready ... get set ...

We're now halfway through the DCC Stewardship Campaign. This Sunday, we'll be talking about the mission of the church. Join us as we lift up and pray for the community and outreach ministries of Disciples Christian Church.

Sept. 17 - Let's Grow ... Our Mission
Sept. 24 - Let's Grow ... Our Giving

Everyone is invited to a celebration luncheon after worship on Sunday, September 24. Please sign up for a side dish and/or dessert on the sheets that will circulate before and after Sunday School.

Our “Let’s Grow” campaign is about much more than budgets or money. It is about ministry and mission. You are encouraged to let this campaign be a season of reflection and prayer to all that God is calling Disciples Christian Church to do and to be. For a campaign scripture reading and prayer guide, visit the church website and click on the "Let's Grow" logo.

World Communion Sunday
On Sunday, October 1, Christians all over the world will celebrate World Communion Sunday. DCC will mark this special day with a joint Lord's Supper with First Chinese Christian Church. Also, we will have a special reading of Psalm 23 in Norwegian,as well as Nigerian and Chinese dialects. Don't miss this unique and uplifting worship experience!
Trunk or Treat
The DCC front lawn will be "the place" on Saturday, October 28 from 3-6 pm. That afternoon we will be holding a fall carnival called "Trunk or Treat." All DCC members can take part in this by bringing your car/truck up to the church and decorating the back. Children will go from car to car collecting candy.

In addition to Trunk or Treat, many other activities are planned:

  • A bounce house
  • Carnival games led by the DCC youth
  • Live music
  • Face painting
  • Papa John's pizza
  • Participation by Plano Fire and Police departments
  • Raffles and prizes
  • A costume contest
Please invite your friends and neighbors to this SAFE Halloween alternative. For more information, please contact Nancy Hall.
Rev. Brian Coats
Last Monday we marked the fifth anniversary of 9/11. "Where were you?" is a frequent question that is answered quickly and confidently by just about everyone ... There is no need to ask "Do you remember where you were?" Everyone does.

Lock-in
By Donna Atkinson
Minister to Youth and Families

It's almost time for our lock-in!

On Thursday, Sept. 21 the "Rockin' Round the Clock" R.A.L.L.Y. will be at DCC from 8pm Thursday - 8am Friday. Bring a friend, your bedroll, 50 cents, a flashlight, your personal Bible, CD’s (Christian artists preferred) as we rock our socks off learning to walk like Jesus through games, good music, gab sessions, great snacks and more!

Also, join us for "R.A.L.L.Y. On the Road" in October as we reach out to share the Good Life in Christ with more youth in our community! Watch the Link for details!

"The Kingdom of God is like ... "

You've heard these famous stories from Jesus ... but never like this. Join us in worship this fall, as we hear about ...

  • October 8 ... The Sower - Luke 8:4- 15
  • October 15 ... The Good Samaritan - Luke 10:25- 37
  • October 22 ... The Wedding Banquet - Matthew 22:2-14
  • October 29 ...The Ten Bridegrooms - Matthew 25: 1-13
  • November 5 ... The Sheep and Goats - Matthew 25: 31-46
  • November 12 ... The Lost Son - Luke 15: 11- 32
Invite a friend or neighbor to this refreshing retelling of Jesus' stories and illustrations, which often offered glimpses of heaven, as well as of God's character.
Adam's Animals is a non-profit foundation established in memory of Adam Hurst, a member of DCC and an NTA Youth Exec who died of leukemia on August 17th, 1999 at the age of eighteen. In the past seven years Adam's Animals has collected and distributed over 21,500 NEW stuffed animals to sick children in area hospitals. Adam's Animals are distributed by doctors, nurses, EMTs and staff whenever there is a child in need of comfort. Each stuffed animal delivered brings love, hope, friendship, and the knowledge that someone cares. Your contributions help bring all this to children who need special attention.

DCC is a drop off location for Adam's Animals. Please help by bringing NEW stuffed animals to the Adam's Animals box in the Atrium. Each stuffed animal becomes a friend to a child in need of something to hold on to and love at a difficult time in their young life. For more information, visit the Adam's Animals website.

How about a DCC road trip to Amarillo?

All of the Christian Churches (Disciples of Christ) in the Southwest gather once every two years for worship, renewal and fellowship. The next gathering is October 19-21, 2006 in Amarillo, TX. Featured speakers include Joey Jeter and Alvin Jackson, and the Saturday night worship will take place in Palo Duro Canyon! Our own Brian Coats is in charge of a youth worker training during the event.

Registration information can be found on the Region website. Also, talk to Brian for more details.

website
If you have not stopped by the DCC website recently, click on over. A significant update was made on Wednesday, August 30. There are more photos, and church leaders can find important documents on the download page. Additionally, all of Rev. Coats sermons can be found on a new message series page.

Also, don't forget to visit the online calendar. It enables you to send yourself reminders of upcoming events, send invitations to friends and colleagues and download the church schedule to your personal computer. You can find all of the church activities, birthdays and anniversaries for September on that calendar, as well as the scheduled Elders, Deacons and Greeters for each Sunday.

Also, there is a place to submit prayer requests and a new feature called "DCC TV," which is a video of our Sunday worship.

For website suggestions, please e-mail the church office.

Feel free to forward this e-mail on. If you are the recipient of a forwarded e-mail, and you have more questions about anything you see here or about Disciples Christian Church, send an e-mail to brian@dccplano.com.
