A Festival is Coming to DCC
Trunk or Treat

The DCC front lawn will be "the place" on Saturday, October 28 from 3-6 pm. That afternoon we will be holding a fall carnival called "Trunk or Treat." Although this is an outreach event aimed at the nearby neighborhood, DCC members can take part in several ways: By helping stuff door hanger bags THIS Sunday, by baking a cake or other treat, or by bringing your car/truck up to the church the day of the event and decorating the back. Children will go from car to car collecting candy, and there will be a contest for the most creatively-decorated trunk.

In addition to Trunk or Treat, many other activities are planned:

  • A bounce house
  • Carnival games led by the DCC youth
  • Live music
  • Face painting
  • Pizza provided by Papa John's
  • Participation by Plano Fire and Police departments
  • Raffles and prizes
  • A costume contest
  • Pet adoption
Many local businesses, including Outback Steakhouse, Mardel's, Chick-Fil-A, The Cheesecake Factory and Starbucks have donated prizes. Please invite your friends and neighbors to this SAFE Halloween alternative. For more information, please contact Nancy Hall.

Rev. Brian Coats
I do not think it is any big secret that I consider retreat to be a spiritual discipline. Anytime I am able to get away to a quiet place - with lakes, rivers and mountains being among my favorite quiet places - I feel closer to God.

Last week, I spent eight days retreating in or around Seattle, Washington. I returned renewed, recharged and refreshed.

agenda
Reviewing the proposed 2007 DCC Budget will be the main agenda item at a Board Meeting, scheduled for Sunday, October 15 at 4 p.m. All newly-elected Board officers, ministry team coordinators and representatives are encouraged to attend. Questions? Contact John Prewitt, board chair.

Adam's Animals is a non-profit foundation established in memory of Adam Hurst, a member of DCC and an NTA Youth Exec who died of leukemia on August 17th, 1999 at the age of eighteen. In the past seven years Adam's Animals has collected and distributed over 21,500 NEW stuffed animals to sick children in area hospitals. Adam's Animals are distributed by doctors, nurses, EMTs and staff whenever there is a child in need of comfort. Each stuffed animal delivered brings love, hope, friendship, and the knowledge that someone cares. Your contributions help bring all this to children who need special attention.

DCC is a drop off location for Adam's Animals. Please help by bringing NEW stuffed animals to the Adam's Animals box in the Atrium. Each stuffed animal becomes a friend to a child in need of something to hold on to and love at a difficult time in their young life. For more information, visit the Adam's Animals website.

Music Director

The Chancel Choir is starting to rehearse music for Thanksgiving and Christmas this week! We will be doing a Christmas Cantata on December 10th. If you would like to be a part of the holiday music, please join us in the sanctuary from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Wednesdays.

Calling all kids and grandkids!! I would love to have our preschool and elementary kids sing a song for Thanksgiving on November 19th and sing at the Christmas Eve Candlelight service. If your child or grandchild would like to participate, please let me know. Thank you!

On Sunday, November 5, you are invited to join us as DCC participates in the Collin County CROP Walk.

CROP Hunger Walks are "Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty"-- neighbors walking together to take a stand against hunger in our world.  Together we raise awareness and funds for international relief and development, as well as local hunger-fighting. The proceeds (around $4 million nationally) from CROP Walk support long-term development in 80 countries, help meet the special needs of refugees and assist in disasters and famines. All this, and you get some great exercise!

To take part in the walk, sign up in the Atrium. The walk will take place from 2-4 pm at Russell Creek Park. Even if you cannot walk, you can participate by sponsoring one of the walkers.

Jeff and Gena Hurst will be delivering Adam’s Animals for hospitalized children in November and need our help tagging the stuffed animals.

Mark you calendar for Tuesday, Oct. 17 and join your CWF friends from Disciples Christian Church Plano from 6:30pm – 8:30pm at their home at 2425 Stone Creek Drive in Plano.

Please R.S.V.P. to Donna Atkinson at 972-881-5243 or by e-mail so we will know if you plan to attend and help with this special project! Bring a friend if you like!

website
If you have not stopped by the DCC website recently, click on over. A significant update was made on Monday, September 25. There are more photos, and church leaders can find important documents on the download page. Additionally, all of Rev. Coats sermons can be found on a new message series page.

Also, don't forget to visit the online calendar. It enables you to send yourself reminders of upcoming events, send invitations to friends and colleagues and download the church schedule to your personal computer. You can find all of the church activities, birthdays and anniversaries on that calendar, as well as the scheduled Elders, Deacons and Greeters for each Sunday.

Also, there is a place to submit prayer requests and a new feature called "DCC TV," which includes the videos from the "Let's Grow" campaign.

For website suggestions, please e-mail the church office.

Feel free to forward this e-mail on. If you are the recipient of a forwarded e-mail, and you have more questions about anything you see here or about Disciples Christian Church, send an e-mail to brian@dccplano.com.
