A Beautiful Day
Trunk or Treat

By Nancy Hall
Evangelism Ministry Team Coordinator

" ... The parking lot full ... people actually crossing the street to come to our carnival ... clusters of guests sat visiting while their children did the cake walk ... incredible is not even the correct word. I really knew that we were doing our mission statement of "living and telling the good news of Jesus Christ." For me it was a dream come true. The doors were open and we mwere looking at the world. Better yet - the world was looking at us. Better yet - we were saying, "Y'all come on in" ... we would love to have you.

Over 200 guests came and eventually left, smiling, saying and showing they had had a very good time.

This is a small part of the column/thank-you note Nancy wrote after the DCC Trunk or Treat Fall Festival last Saturday. To read the rest of her note, click here. To see more photos from the event, click here.

Rev. Brian Coats
A few weeks ago in worship, I spoke about being a "missional church." I talked about viewing ourselves not just as believers, Christians or even Disciples, but as missionaries - missionaries right here in Plano, TX, USA. The idea is one of being sent - taking the Gospel of Jesus to our community, and to its needs.

Here are all the ways we are trying to be missional between now and the end of the year.

Thanksgiving
"Praise God from whom all blessings flow
Praise Him all creatures here below
Praise Him above ye heavenly host
Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost"

We sing that song of praise and thanksgiving every Sunday. Join your church family for further thanksgiving - complete with turkey and all of the trimmings - on Sunday, November 19 directly following worship. The Community Ministry Team will be circulating sign-up sheets before Sunday School and worship the next few Sundays. Be sure and sign up to bring a dish!

Bring your sponsor sheet and money from your sponsors and meet at the church at 1:30 pm to carpool to the walk! The walk is from 2-4 pm at Russell Creek Park.

Christmas Eve Youth Sunday Worship Planning Sessions ... Saturday, Nov. 11 from 10-Noon and Sunday, Nov. 12 following worship – 2pm ... ALL Youth preschool – 12 grade are asked to be present at one of these sessions. Parents are welcome to stay and assist as the youth use their gifts to create a very special worship service. Please let Donna know which session you will be attending.

Do you have a desire to grow in your faith? Are you ready for a life changing, transforming opportunity? Sponsoring the youth to area events or assisting them in one of their activities is a fun dynamic way to grow in your faith and help mentor our youth as they grow in theirs! Prayerfully consider how you can share your time and talents to help with the youth ministry at DCC Plano! ... Call Donna for details.

We'll mark the season of Thanksgiving with two sermons about gratitude. Come and share the worship of Jesus Christ with us, and be reminded that it's often the "simple things" that bless us the most.
Angel Tree
Each year Disciples Christian Church participates with the Salvation Army in their Angel Tree ministry. The goal of this program is to make sure every child and senior has a gift for Christmas. This year we are “adopting” 30 angels comprised of both children and seniors. These “angels” will not have Christmas presents without our help. Martha Pusko will set up the Angel Tree for November 12 and it will stay up until November 26. The gifts are due back on Sunday, November 26. Please consider joining in this wonderful ministry. Adopt an angel or two this year! If you would like to adopt an angel but you cannot shop for the gifts, please call the church office at (972) 398-2240 and we will coordinate a “designated shopper” for you.
Welcome
We are blessed with many regular guests who attend each week and make DCC their church home. "Continuing Visitors" are those new people who have recently attended two or more Sundays.

Continuing Visitors:
Bridget and Corin Drumm

Additionally, DCC welcomed over 60 visiting families on Saturday during Trunk or Treat!

THIS Sunday, November 5, you are invited to join us as DCC participates in the Collin County CROP Walk.

CROP Hunger Walks are "Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty"-- neighbors walking together to take a stand against hunger in our world.  Together we raise awareness and funds for international relief and development, as well as local hunger-fighting. The proceeds (around $4 million nationally) from CROP Walk support long-term development in 80 countries, help meet the special needs of refugees and assist in disasters and famines. All this, and you get some great exercise!

To take part in the walk, see Brian or Donna. The walk will take place from 2-4 pm at Russell Creek Park. Even if you cannot walk, you can participate by sponsoring one of the walkers.

choir
By Laura Young
Music Director

Remember to put the Christmas Cantata on your calendars for December 10! By the way, we still have room in the choir for Christmas, so if you are reading this and you would like to be a part of the Thanksgiving and Christmas music, please join us in the sanctuary from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Wednesdays.

Youth members who are participating in the music and drama on Christmas Eve will have time to rehearse their music from 9:30 to 10:00 a.m. in the sanctuary (with Laura and Donna) on the first and third Sundays of the month. (Nov. 5 and 19 and Dec. 3 and 17).

Calling all kids and grandkids!! I would love to have our preschool and elementary kids sing a song for Thanksgiving on November 19 and sing at the Christmas Eve Candlelight service. If your child or grandchild would like to participate, please let me know. Thank you!

website
If you have not stopped by the DCC website recently, click on over. A significant update was made on Monday, October 30. There are more photos, and church leaders can find important documents on the download page. Additionally, all of Rev. Coats sermons can be found on a new message series page.

Also, don't forget to visit the online calendar. It enables you to send yourself reminders of upcoming events, send invitations to friends and colleagues and download the church schedule to your personal computer. You can find all of the church activities, birthdays and anniversaries on that calendar, as well as the scheduled Elders, Deacons and Greeters for each Sunday.

Also, there is a place to submit prayer requests and a new feature called "DCC TV," which includes the videos from the "Let's Grow" campaign.

For website suggestions, please e-mail the church office.

Feel free to forward this e-mail on. If you are the recipient of a forwarded e-mail, and you have more questions about anything you see here or about Disciples Christian Church, send an e-mail to brian@dccplano.com.
