A Beautiful Day
|

By Nancy Hall
Evangelism Ministry Team Coordinator
" ... The parking lot full ... people actually crossing
the street to come to our carnival ... clusters of
guests sat visiting while their children did the cake
walk ... incredible is not even the correct word. I
really knew that we were doing our mission statement
of "living and telling the good news of Jesus
Christ." For me it was a dream come true. The doors
were open and we mwere looking at the world. Better
yet - the world was looking at us. Better yet - we
were saying, "Y'all come on in" ... we would love to
have you.
Over 200
guests came and eventually left, smiling, saying and
showing they had had a very good time.
This is a small part of the column/thank-you note
Nancy wrote after the DCC Trunk or Treat Fall
Festival last Saturday. To read the rest of her note,

A few weeks ago in worship, I spoke about being
a "missional church." I talked about viewing ourselves
not just as believers, Christians or even Disciples, but
as missionaries - missionaries right here in Plano, TX,
USA. The idea is one of being sent - taking the
Gospel of Jesus to our community, and to its
needs.
Here are all the ways we are trying to be missional
between now and the end of the year.

We are blessed with many regular guests who attend
each week and make DCC their church
home. "Continuing Visitors" are those new people who
have recently attended two or more Sundays.
Continuing Visitors:
Bridget and Corin Drumm
Additionally, DCC welcomed over 60 visiting
families on Saturday during Trunk or Treat!

Another Mission Opportunity: CROP Walk
|
 |
THIS Sunday, November 5, you are invited
to
join us as DCC participates in the Collin County
CROP Walk.
CROP Hunger Walks are "Communities Responding to
Overcome Poverty"-- neighbors walking together to
take a stand against hunger in our world. Together
we raise awareness and funds for international relief
and development, as well as local hunger-fighting.
The proceeds (around $4 million nationally) from CROP
Walk support long-term development in 80 countries,
help meet the special needs of refugees and assist in
disasters and famines. All this, and you get some
great exercise!
To take part in the walk, see Brian or Donna. The
walk will take place from 2-4 pm at Russell Creek
Park. Even if you cannot walk, you can
participate by
sponsoring one of the walkers.

By Laura
Young
Music Director
Remember to put the Christmas Cantata on
your calendars for December 10! By the
way, we still have room in the choir for Christmas, so
if you are reading this and you would like to be a part
of the Thanksgiving and Christmas music, please join
us in the sanctuary from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on
Wednesdays.
Youth members who are participating in the music
and drama on Christmas Eve will have time to
rehearse their music from 9:30 to 10:00 a.m. in the
sanctuary (with Laura and Donna) on the first and
third Sundays of the month. (Nov. 5 and 19 and
Dec. 3 and 17).
Calling all kids and grandkids!! I would love to have
our preschool and elementary kids sing a song for
Thanksgiving on November 19 and sing at the
Christmas Eve Candlelight service. If your child
or
grandchild would like to participate, please let me
know. Thank you!

Telling the Good News: Online
|
 |
If you have not stopped by the DCC website
recently, click
on over. A significant update was made on
Monday, October 30. There are more
photos, and
church leaders can find important documents on the
download page. Additionally, all of Rev. Coats
sermons can be found on a new message series page.
Also, don't forget to visit the online
calendar. It enables you to send yourself
reminders of upcoming events, send invitations to
friends and colleagues and download the church
schedule to your personal computer.
You can find all of the church activities, birthdays
and anniversaries on that calendar, as well as the
scheduled Elders,
Deacons and Greeters for
each Sunday. Also, there is a place to
submit prayer requests and a new feature
called "DCC TV," which includes the videos from
the "Let's Grow" campaign.
For website suggestions, please e-mail the
church office.
