Basketball Camp

The third annual Bob Knoll All-Star Basketball Camp is THIS Friday and Saturday, June 2- 3!

Bob and his army of volunteers will be out in full force as somewhere around 75 youth are expected to descend upon the DCC parking lot. This year, some coaches with Special Olympics of Texas will be bringing their athletes over.

Feel free to stop by and watch Bob in action!

Kick off the summer with a unique special event:

Ice Cream Social and Concert featuring the “9:45 Band" | Friday
June 9 at 7 pm

This is an excellent laid-back event to invite your friends and neighbors to ... The 9:45 Band leads the Contemporary service at Fellowship United Methodist Church in Trophy Club. They play adult contemporary and folk music.

We'll begin in the fellowship hall at 7 pm and move into the sanctuary for the concert around 8 pm. Please be sure to sign up to bring ice cream and condiments/toppings ... The sign-up sheet is on the credenza in the Atrium.

Music Notes
Remember that you can come say "hello" to John Dysart and the Nabors at the Cast of Bronze concert. John will be flying back to participate in their tour, which ends in Richardson at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 15th at St Barnabas Presbyterian Church at 1221 W. Belt Line Road. For more information on this professional handbell ensemble, you can go to www.castofbronze.com.

Choir schedule:
The chancel choir will sing until Sunday, June 18th, and then begin a summer break. We will resume rehearsals on Wednesday, August 9 at 6:30 p.m.

Summer specials:
If you are interested in performing special music during the summer, please contact Laura Young at 972-744-9941.

Keyboardist search:
Our search is underway. If you know of someone who is talented and interested, they may apply by giving a resume to Jan in the office, or submitting a resume on-line through our DCC website.

The Richardson Community Band presents free family- friendly concerts every two weeks during summer. The next one takes place on Sunday, June 11th at 7 p.m. at the lawn of the Richardson Civic Center (on Arapaho, just West of 75). Concert-goers are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets. Picnic dinners are welcome too. For more information, please see www.richardsoncommunityband.org.

In His Steps
“In His Steps”
Walking With Jesus
June/July 2006 Message Series
Disciples Christian Church

Join us on a multi-sensory journey to first-century Palestine. What did Jesus see, hear, feel, touch and taste during his earthly ministry? ... What was happening around him? ... What was it like to be at a wedding celebration and run out of wine? ... How did it feel to sit in a crowd of 5000, as darkness and hunger grew?

With an emphasis on setting and scenery, we’ll explore questions like this and more in June and July. Each message will focus on an event in Jesus’ life as recorded by John. During this time, our services will be highly-visual, experiential and casual. Jesus wore sandals – feel free to wear yours!

June 18: Water Into Wine ... John 2:1-11
June 25: Jesus teaches Nicodemus ... John 3:1- 17
July 2: Fred Hall preaching
July 9: The Healing at the Pool ... John 5:1-14
July 16: Feeding of 5000 ... John 6:1-15
July 23: Altered leading music; VBS Celebration; Youth-led drama message
July 30: Death and Resurrection of Lazarus ... John 11:1-44

There will be a very important volunteer meeting for Fiesta! Vacation Bible School THIS Sunday, June 4 following worship. We will assign roles and duties and watch a training video. Lunch will be served.

Volunteer opportunities still abound. To sign up, send Brian an e- mail.

Also, to register a young person for VBS, simply print out and return a registration form to the DCC office! It could not be more simple!

Congregational Meeting
An all-church meeting is set for THIS Sunday, June 4 at 9 am. At this time, the Nominating Team will present the slate of Elders, Deacons and Board Officers for congregational approval. Newly- called leaders will assume their positions on July 1.
Rev. Brian Coats
It's a new day at Disciples Christian Church. Have you heard me say that once or twice the last few months? Well, it's not just preacher-speak. It really is. And here's another example ...

Building on Faith
Thank you to all who helped prepare and serve lunch for the Habitat workers on Saturday, May 20. It is nice to see such wonderful servants of the Lord like:
  • Nancy & Chuck Bertschi
  • Vicky Gonzalez
  • Nancy & Fred Hall
  • Gena & Jeff Hurst
  • Rosie Lewallen
  • Pat Brown
  • Patti & Rick Boyer
  • Mike & Stacy Bell
  • Susan Shaw
It seemed that all the workers were pleased with their large lunch buffet.

Thanks,
Nicole

P.S. Feel free to join us THIS Sunday, June 4 at 3 pm at the home dedication at 1210 Ave. G!

July 4
On Tuesday, July 4, DCC will have a float in the Plano Independence Day Parade, and we need your help!

We’ll be preparing over 1500 water bottles on Sunday, June 11 and Sunday, June 25 after worship. If you can stay after for a little while to help us, it will make the work easier on everyone.

This is an excellent opportunity to offer our friends and neighbors a “cup of living water.” Join us as we reach out to as many Plano neighbors as possible!

website
If you have not stopped by the DCC website recently, click on over. The most notable new feature is an online calendar. It enables you to send yourself reminders of upcoming events, send invitations to friends and colleagues and download the church schedule to your personal computer. You can find all of the church activities for June on that calendar.

Also, there is a place to submit prayer requests and a new feature called "DCC TV," which is a video of our Sunday worship.

For website suggestions, please e-mail the church office.

Brittan Grace
Congratulations to Bob and Sharon Knoll on the birth of their first grandbaby, Brittan Grace Steele, who was born on May 24 at 10:48 p.m. She weighed 7 lbs., 8 oz. and was 19 ˝ “ long at birth. Bob proclaims her as an “angel!”
