Serving Our Neighbors
|
 |
This Sunday, July 30, we will dedicate
Emergency Clean-up
buckets as part of our offering time in worship. If
you
collected the supplies for and assembled one of these
buckets, please bring it with you to church.
With tropical moisture in Texas and Louisiana this
week, Hurricane Season 2006 is well underway. As
we've learned the last two years, unfortunately it's
not "if" a hurricane will strike, but "when." This year,
DCC is going to get a head- start on the aid. The
supplies in these buckets enable people to begin the
overwhelming job of cleaning up after a flood,
hurricane, tornado or other disaster.
It is not too late to prepare a bucket! The
contents can be found on the Church World Service website.

The energy and the spirit was high as
Altered,
the praise and worship band from Cypress Creek
Christian Church in Spring, led worship on Sunday,
July 23. It was a festive Sunday, as we also had
the Chi Rho (middle school) youth group from
Kingwood Christian Church with us. We
celebrated
Vacation Bible School, and DCC youth
led all of the
prayers, served at the table and presented the
drama, "The Ragman."
Many thanks to the talented youth and adults that
led or served in worship. Please continue to share
your gifts to God's
glory!

In case you missed it in the last Link, I am happy to
tell you
that Julie Chen started her new job as our
pianist/organist! Julie
has a Bachelor's degree in piano performance from
Shanghai
Conservatory of Music and a Master's degree in piano
performance from
Ohio University. She has been teaching piano for 22
years and has
extensive accompanying experience, including
working in many North
Texas churches and accompanying for the PISD Solo
and Ensemble
Festival. I am looking forward to working with her
and I think all
of you will enjoy her as well.
If you are looking for something fun to do on Sunday
night, the
Richardson Community Band will present a free
concert on the lawn of
the Richardson Civic Center at 7 p.m. Sunday
night.
Bring a lawn
chair and a picnic and enjoy! The final summer
concert will be
presented there on August 13th.
I have enjoyed reading your responses in the
hymn poll! You can
still participate in the poll until the end of July. In
August, I
will collect the responses and find out what your
favorites are. The
box is on the narthex table by the bulletins and large-
print hymnals.

For most of us, life is a balancing act – keeping all
the plates spinning and all the balls in the air – and
then having enough energy to start again tomorrow.
This is especially true for many families as a new
school year starts. Is perfect balance really
achievable? Certainly – if you’re a circus performer. If
you’re not, join us at Disciples Christian Church,
where we’re learning to survive and thrive in the
imbalance we all call life!
This three-week series kicks off Sunday, August
13.

Telling the Good News: Online
|
 |
If you have not stopped by the DCC website
recently, click
on over. The most notable new feature is an online
calendar. It enables you to send yourself
reminders of upcoming events, send invitations to
friends and colleagues and download the church
schedule to your personal computer.
You can find all of the church activities, birthdays
and anniversaries for August on
that calendar, as well as the scheduled Elders
and Deacons for
each Sunday. Also, there is a place to
submit prayer requests and a new feature
called "DCC TV," which is a video of our Sunday worship.
For website suggestions, please e-mail the
church office.
