A New Newsletter for DCC
Disciples Christian Church

In need of a name!

This is the third issue of DCC's new e-newsletter. This week, we're asking the question, is "Disciplegram" still a good fit? Maybe so, but maybe not. So we're starting up a contest: Who can come up with the best new name for the e-newsletter? Submit your ideas to the church office, and we'll run them in future e-newsletters, along with a place where you can vote. We'll tabulate the votes, and let you know the winner! The person(s) who submitted the winning name will get ... well ... a free lifetime subscription to the e-newsletter that bears their name (shh ... don't tell them that it's free anyway!)!

The Pastoral Support Team is sponsoring two get- togethers during the month of February to get to know Brian, Nicole and Kiley a little better. Join us either Friday, February 10 or Friday, February 24. We will be gathering at the Coats’ home in Allen. They are providing the place, and we’re providing the food, so bring a side dish to share. Part of the evening will be set aside for sharing our hopes and goals for DCC, so come and be a part of the dreaming! You can sign up for a night and note your side dish on a sign-up sheet located on the Welcome Center in the Atrium, or you can sign up by talking to or e-mailing Sandy Snyder.

Music Notes
Choir has resumed! If you are interested in singing with us, please join us at 8:30 on Sunday morning in the sanctuary. You do not need to read music to join us. If you can carry a tune in a bucket, I can supply the buckets! We will be singing in the Feb. 5th worship service. See you Sunday! Laura Young, Music Director, 972-744-9941.
Sunday, February 5: Lunch with First Chinese Christian Church. To honor the Chinese New Year, say “thank you” to English teachers, and for FCCC members to have an opportunity to greet Brian, Nicole and Kiley, we will be having a traditional Chinese lunch directly after worship THIS SUNDAY. We are asked to bring nothing but ourselves, as FCCC sees this as a significant opportunity to extend hospitality. Plan on staying after church for lunch and fellowship!
Thursday, February 16 Young at Heart will be meeting on February 16 at 6:30 PM at Old Whiskers restaurant, located at 1301 Custer Rd. (at 15th St.). Call Fred Hughey with any questions at 972-596- 8658.
Sunday, February 26: Congregational meeting to vote on new DCC Constitution, By-Laws and Operation and Procedure Manual.
Rev. Brian Coats
Yesterday, sometime around 8:15 a.m. - the day after her 87th birthday - Louise O'Banion went home. Last night Oran and Charlotte Nabors and I visited with her daughter and son-in- law, Barbara and Dennis O'Malley. I learned much about Louise. I hope you're able to attend the funeral tomorrow (Thursday, February 2) at 10 a.m. at Sparkman- Hillcrest Funeral Home in Dallas to honor her. If you are, I won't reveal all of the stories here that will be told there, but I will share one.
World Vision
Collections are still underway for Judith Atuherize, the child DCC is sponsoring through World Vision. So far, we've received about half of what's needed, so if you can donate, please put your contribution in the offering plate on Sunday, or mail it to the office. The cost is $40 for a month of sponsorship. Either way, mark your contribution with a notation "World Vision". Thank You.
Sandra Snyder, contact person.
