A New Creation

It was a time for celebration last Sunday as Bekki Mueller was grafted into the Body of Christ through the waters of baptism. As a result of her confession of faith, she is a new creation in Christ, and a member of Disciples Christian Church.

Bekki said she is thankful her parents were persistent in encouraging her to come to church.

"My parents brought me to DCC because they had joined," she said. "When I moved back home my parents told me they wanted me to try out the church for real, not just on Easter Sunday. I came every Sunday because they took me to lunch if I went. Then, I felt the call to get baptized."

Bekki, a receptionist at New England Financial, feels the church is a great fit for her.

"I like that it is fairly small," she said. "I also like how everyone seems to know everyone or know of everyone. I like how when you walk in, whether the church is full or empty, you feel as though you are coming home."

Welcome home, Bekki!

balance
For most of us, life is a balancing act – keeping all the plates spinning and all the balls in the air – and then having enough energy to start again tomorrow. This is especially true for many families as a new school year starts.

Is perfect balance really achievable? Certainly – if you’re a circus performer. If you’re not, join us at Disciples Christian Church, where we’re learning to survive and thrive in the imbalance we all call life!

Join us this week as we share some ideas on how to combat "a demon of our time" - busyness.

Youth Group Schedule
Rev'D Up!

What an amazing week it's been since my installation as your new Minister to Youth and Families! After installation I traveled with 11 youth and 5 adults to serve in mission in Lake Charles, LA to continue with the Hurricane Rita relief effort. During our week there we worked alongside many volunteers to help get portable classrooms at the high school in the town of Cameron up and running so the youth returning with their families to that area could begin classes in the next few weeks ...

ski trip
Interested in joining in on a church family ski vacation next March? Come and hear about the possibility for a trip to Keystone, Colorado at an informational meeting on Sunday, August 27 directly after worship. We'll talk about location, cost, transportation, lodging, etc.
Adam's Animals is a non-profit foundation established in memory of Adam Hurst, a member of DCC and an NTA Youth Exec who died of leukemia on August 17th, 1999 at the age of eighteen. In the past seven years Adam's Animals has collected and distributed over 21,500 NEW stuffed animals to sick children in area hospitals. Adam's Animals are distributed by doctors, nurses, EMTs and staff whenever there is a child in need of comfort. Each stuffed animal delivered brings love, hope, friendship, and the knowledge that someone cares. Your contributions help bring all this to children who need special attention.

DCC is a drop off location for Adam's Animals. Please help by bringing NEW stuffed animals to the Adam's Animals box in the atrium. Each stuffed animal becomes a friend to a child in need of something to hold on to and love at a difficult time in their young life. For more information, visit the Adam's Animals website.

Welcome
We are blessed with many regular guests who attend each week and make DCC their church home. "Continuing Visitors" are those new people who have recently attended two or more Sundays.

Continuing Visitors:
Taylor Noyce, Mariana McGowan; Sonny, Ada and Labo Emine

Disciple
Registration begins this Sunday for two new adult Bible studies. Rev. Brian Coats will be teaching "Disciple" Bible studies on Sunday and Thursday evenings. One class will be for eight weeks, and the other will be for 36.

From the Disciple web site: "DISCIPLE aims at transformation - not just information - and calls on persons to submit themselves to examination by Scripture, to put themselves under the power of God’s Word, and to be changed by God’s Word. DISCIPLE invites persons to bring their experiences and struggles to the Scripture."

For more information, visit with Brian. You can sign up in the Atrium or via e-mail.

How about a DCC road trip to Amarillo?

All of the Christian Churches (Disciples of Christ) in the Southwest gather once every two years for worship, renewal and fellowship. The next gathering is October 19-21, 2006 in Amarillo, TX. Featured speakers include Joey Jeter and Alvin Jackson, and the Saturday night worship will take place in Palo Duro Canyon! Our own Brian Coats is in charge of a youth worker training during the event.

Registration information can be found on the Region website. Also, talk to Brian for more details.

website
If you have not stopped by the DCC website recently, click on over. A significant update was made on Monday, August 7. There are more photos, and church leaders can find important documents on the download page. Additionally, all of Rev. Coats sermons can be found on a new message series page.

Also, don't forget to visit the online calendar. It enables you to send yourself reminders of upcoming events, send invitations to friends and colleagues and download the church schedule to your personal computer. You can find all of the church activities, birthdays and anniversaries for August on that calendar, as well as the scheduled Elders and Deacons for each Sunday.

Also, there is a place to submit prayer requests and a new feature called "DCC TV," which is a video of our Sunday worship.

For website suggestions, please e-mail the church office.

Feel free to forward this e-mail on. If you are the recipient of a forwarded e-mail, and you have more questions about anything you see here or about Disciples Christian Church, send an e-mail to brian@dccplano.com.
