It's time for choir! The Chancel Choir
resumes rehearsals on Wednesday, August
9th, from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in the choir loft. I am
coming back with fresh ideas from choral workshops
and some new music is being ordered! When we
return, we will start fall music and make
plans for our Christmas Cantata. Singers of all levels
are welcome, and we welcome interested older youth
along with our adults. You do not need to be able to
read music (yet! as I say to the choir). Being a
volunteer group, we have all levels, and we are all
learning together and able to create a wonderful
sound with the diverse singers we have. If you
aren't sure if choir is for you, come try it
out on a Wednesday and find out. Our purpose is
twofold. Primarily, we exist to add our musical
offering to the worship services. Secondly, we
provide fellowship, learning, moral support,
encouragement and fun to our fellow choir
members.
The Hymn Poll has come to an end and I will be picking up the box on Sunday, August 6th. If you are regretting that you didn't get your favorite hymns (or other church songs) onto the list, you can email them to me this week at youngzoo@sbcglobal.net. Tell me your favorite hymn for Advent/Christmas, Lent/Easter, and General/"ordinary time," and your thoughts about any other types of music you would love to sing or hear in our worship time. Wow! I was thrilled and inspired by all of the kids at VBS Fiesta! I also appreciated the children from DCC and FCC who came to sing our favorite Fiesta songs during the July 23rd worship. It was so good to have younger voices up front that I am working on plans to get our smaller ones singing at least seasonally this year. If you have a child or grandchild in preschool or elementary school and you think they might be interested in singing for church holidays this year, please call or email me to let me know. I will add them to my contact list. Thank you! Laura Young, Music Director, 972-744-9941. |

We are blessed with many regular guests who attend
each week and make DCC their church
home. "Continuing Visitors" are those new people who
have recently attended two or more Sundays.
Continuing Visitors:
First-time Visitors (July 30): And a special note on how great it was to have DCC's former co-transitional ministers, Charlotte and Oran Nabors, with us! |

Registration begins this Sunday for two new adult
Bible studies. Rev. Brian Coats will be
teaching "Disciple" Bible studies on Sunday and
Thursday evenings. One class will be for eight
weeks,
and the other will be for 36.
From the Disciple web site: "DISCIPLE aims at transformation - not just information - and calls on persons to submit themselves to examination by Scripture, to put themselves under the power of God’s Word, and to be changed by God’s Word. DISCIPLE invites persons to bring their experiences and struggles to the Scripture." For more information, visit with Brian. You can sign up in the Atrium or via e-mail. |

If you have not stopped by the DCC website
recently, click
on over. The most notable new feature is an online
calendar. It enables you to send yourself
reminders of upcoming events, send invitations to
friends and colleagues and download the church
schedule to your personal computer.
You can find all of the church activities, birthdays
and anniversaries for August on
that calendar, as well as the scheduled Elders
and Deacons for
each Sunday.
Also, there is a place to submit prayer requests and a new feature called "DCC TV," which is a video of our Sunday worship. For website suggestions, please e-mail the church office. |
