It's time for choir! The Chancel Choir rehearses onWednesdays, from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in the choir loft. I am coming back with fresh ideas from choral workshops and some new music is being ordered! We are working on fall music and making plans for our Christmas Cantata. Singers of all levels are welcome, and we welcome interested older youth along with our adults.

Thank you! Laura Young, Music Director, 972-744-9941.

balance
For most of us, life is a balancing act – keeping all the plates spinning and all the balls in the air – and then having enough energy to start again tomorrow. This is especially true for many families as a new school year starts.

Is perfect balance really achievable? Certainly – if you’re a circus performer. If you’re not, join us at Disciples Christian Church, where we’re learning to survive and thrive in the imbalance we all call life!

This three-week series kicks off THIS Sunday, August 13.

Upcoming Youth Event in August

You are invited to meet in the Fellowship Hall THIS Sunday, August 13 at 7:15 p.m., as Bekki Mueller is grafted into the Body of Christ through the Sacrament of Baptism. The support and nurture of her church family is a vital part of this sacred event.
Adam's Animals is a non-profit foundation estabilished in memory of Adam Hurst, a member of DCC and an NTA Youth Exec who died of leukemia on August 17th, 1999 at the age of eighteen. In the past seven years Adam's Animals has collected and distributed over 21,500 NEW stuffed animals to sick children in area hospitals. Adam's Animals are distributed by doctors, nurses, EMTs and staff whenever there is a child in need of comfort. Each stuffed animal delivered brings love, hope, friendship, and the knowledge that someone cares Your contributions help bring all this to children who need special attention.

DCC is a drop off location for Adam's Animals. Please help by bringing NEW stuffed animals to the Adam's Animals box in the atrium. Each stuffed animal becomes a friend to a child in need of something to hold on to and love at a difficult time in their young life. For more information, visit the Adam's Animals website.

Registration begins this Sunday for two new adult Bible studies. Rev. Brian Coats will be teaching "Disciple" Bible studies on Sunday and Thursday evenings. One class will be for eight weeks, and the other will be for 36.

From the Disciple web site: "DISCIPLE aims at transformation - not just information - and calls on persons to submit themselves to examination by Scripture, to put themselves under the power of God’s Word, and to be changed by God’s Word. DISCIPLE invites persons to bring their experiences and struggles to the Scripture."

For more information, visit with Brian. You can sign up in the Atrium or via e-mail.

Bright Beginnings Preschool begins another year on Monday, August 14.

"We are very excited," Linda Gullick, the BBPS director, said. "We have one new teacher - Nicole Coats - and one returning teacher who had been away for a while - Jody Gagne."

BBPS operates Monday-Friday from 9:30 a.m. - 2 p.m. and is open to children 12 months - 4 years. Activities include learning time, snacks, play time, music, Spanish, chapel, lunch, rest and, new for 2006- 07, physical education.

There are still a few openings available for this school year. For more information, contact Linda at the church office, 972-398-2240.

website
If you have not stopped by the DCC website recently, click on over. A significant update was made on Monday, August 7. There are more photos, and church leaders can find important documents on the download page. Additionally, all of Rev. Coats sermons can be found on a new message series page.

Also, don't forget to visit the online calendar. It enables you to send yourself reminders of upcoming events, send invitations to friends and colleagues and download the church schedule to your personal computer. You can find all of the church activities, birthdays and anniversaries for August on that calendar, as well as the scheduled Elders and Deacons for each Sunday.

Also, there is a place to submit prayer requests and a new feature called "DCC TV," which is a video of our Sunday worship.

For website suggestions, please e-mail the church office.

Rev. Brian Coats
