Hoops at DCC

The third annual Bob Knoll All-Star Basketball Camp is next Friday and Saturday, June 2- 3!

Bob and his army of volunteers will be out in full force as somewhere around 75 youth are expected to descend upon the DCC parking lot. This year, some coaches with Special Olympics of Texas will be bringing their athletes over.

Volunteer opportunities are still available. Also, help us spread the word about this FREE camp by distributing fliers throughout the community. You can print a flier out by clicking here.

Kick off the summer with a unique special event:

Ice Cream Social and Concert featuring the “9:45 Band" | Friday
June 9 at 7 pm

This is an excellent laid-back event to invite your friends and neighbors to ... The 9:45 Band leads the Contemporary service at Fellowship United Methodist Church in Trophy Club. They play adult contemporary and folk music.

We'll begin in the fellowship hall at 7 pm and move into the sanctuary for the concert around 8 pm.

John Dysart
Already missing John Dysart? Well, come say "hello" to him at the Cast of Bronze concert. He is flying back from Minnesota to participate in their 2006 tour, which will be ending in Richardson! You will also see the Nabors and you are guaranteed to hear some fabulous handbell music. This is an excellent group, founded by Oran and currently directed by his son, Chris. Even if you know nothing about handbells, you will be amazed by their virtuosic playing and will enjoy the variety in their musical selections. For more information on the group, you can go to www.castofbronze.com. The concert is Thursday, June 15 at 7 pm at St Barnabas Presbyterian Church, 1221 W. Belt Line Road in Richardson.

Choir schedule:

The chancel choir will sing until Sunday, June 18th, and then begin a summer break. We will resume rehearsals on Wednesday, August 9 at 6:30 p.m.

Summer specials:

If you are interested in performing special music during the summer, please contact Laura Young at 972-744-9941.

Keyboardist search:

Our search is underway. We have some good substitutes lined up to help us out for the next couple of months and the job posting has gone out to many colleges, music directors, organists and professional organizations throughout North Texas already. If you know of someone who is talented and interested, they may apply by giving a resume to Jan in the office, or submitting a resume on-line through our DCC website.

In His Steps
“In His Steps”
Walking With Jesus
June/July 2006 Message Series
Disciples Christian Church

Join us on a multi-sensory journey to first-century Palestine. What did Jesus see, hear, feel, touch and taste during his earthly ministry? ... What was happening around him? ... What was it like to be at a wedding celebration and run out of wine? ... How did it feel to sit in a crowd of 5000, as darkness and hunger grew?

With an emphasis on setting and scenery, we’ll explore questions like this and more in June and July. Each message will focus on an event in Jesus’ life as recorded by John. During this time, our services will be highly-visual, experiential and casual. Jesus wore sandals – feel free to wear yours!

June 18: Water Into Wine ... John 2:1-11
June 25: Jesus teaches Nicodemus ... John 3:1- 17
July 2: Fred Hall preaching
July 9: The Healing at the Pool ... John 5:1-14
July 16: Feeding of 5000 ... John 6:1-15
July 23: Altered leading music; VBS Celebration; Youth-led drama message
July 30: Death and Resurrection of Lazarus ... John 11:1-44

There will be a very important volunteer meeting for Fiesta! Vacation Bible School on Sunday, June 4 following worship. We will assign roles and duties and watch a training video. Lunch will be served. Volunteer opportunities still abound. To sign up, send Brian an e- mail.

Also, to register a young person for VBS, simply print out and return a registration form to the DCC office! It could not be more simple!

Congregational Meeting
An all-church meeting is set for Sunday, June 4 at 9 am. At this time, the Nominating Team will present the slate of Elders, Deacons and Board Officers for congregational approval. Newly-called leaders will assume their positions on July 1.
Rev. Brian Coats
Tuesday morning I got to the office around 8:30 a.m. It's a good thing, because if I had of come in a bit later - say around 9:30 or so - I would have had to park across the street at the Lutheran Church ... Our parking lot was full!

If you have not stopped by the DCC website recently, click on over. The most notable new feature is an online calendar. It enables you to send yourself reminders of upcoming events, send invitations to friends and colleagues and download the church schedule to your personal computer. You can find all of the church activities for May on that calendar.

Also, there is a place to submit prayer requests and a new feature called "DCC TV," which is a video of our Sunday worship.

For website suggestions, please e-mail the church office.
